Fair dinkum, I mean CKs look nice so I can't blame you and I do have 2 of them currently and am considering one for a new bike build.

Rice and beans are also quite good, you season everything right and life is good.

I couldn't do the no parts bin thing but I get it, van life is awesome but offers little space for a parts bin.

However you have a nice looking bike so you did it well : )

Thanks! Yeah I think about it sometimes like, this part works just fine, but what I really want is this other one that does the exact same thing... But idk, why not. The simple answer would be I'm just a bit of a perfectionist. I've spent so much on different backpacking gear just to save a few ounces. I really need a sewing machine hahah

It's been a long winter, and I let myself get really out of shape, so my project while waiting for spring to arrive was changing the drivetrain to get lower gears, and swapping the clincher wheel set back in, at least until the winter road debris gets cleared off.

My Jamis Sonik I found NOS here locally a couple years ago. Added brakes cause there is a need for brakes here in Kentucky.

Love the color first of all. Bridgestone is a good frame, did you get that from one of the NJS dealers? I've seen some "race used" Bridgestones and Panasonics that looked awesome.

There is a need for brakes everywhere except a track. I cannot imagine any situation except on a track where not having brakes is better for actual riding. I have never been on a street and thought "yeah I wish I couldn't stop if needed in a controlled quick manner, that would suck" I get the cool factor of having knee and ankle problems when older and making brown streaks in the old white panties but in an unpredictable world I would much rather have the sure stopping power of a item designed to stop you rather than hoping some skidding will slow me down enough or my weaving skills will keep me alive. I mean no lies a brakeless bike looks nice but never have I ever not wanted to have them just to look better. My eeBrakes are sexy as hell and light as hell and stop really well so I get kind of nearly the best of everything or close enough.

$600.00 is a deal for a frame of that level of quality. Glad it showed up in such good shape! Feel free to post more pics, close-ups, out in the sun!

Do you ride on the street or is it a velodrome specific build?

Cheers

Thank you for the kind compliment. The way it is assembled in the photo is for the velodrome. I do have another set of pretty much identical wheels that currently have Soyo Super Rino tires on them. If I ever get the itch to ride this through the park, I can always toss those on.

Wait hold up... grant40 has fairly normal looking bikes? I didn't think it was true. Decent looking ones at that. The stem on that Miyata is sexy as well! It reminds me a bit of the Deda quill stems but I don't think it is one of those.

Wabi finally has a picture on their website of a 42cm Classic with 650c wheels, so here's a preview of the one I've ordered which should arrive next week. Mine will be white with black components and have riser bars.

A better idea of what it should look like, although this one has silver components. Either way, it should look nice.

Today I received my 42cm (650c) Wabi Classic and got a chance to take it for a 10 mile ride. As expected it has that smooth steel ride and handles well. It's stock except for upgraded Panaracer Pasela Protite 650x28c tires (+$55). The pedals are Velo Orange Grand Cru Sabot ($84) and the bottle cage is Wabi from my parts bin. Total cost including shipping was $1104 and the weight as pictured minus the water bottle is 18.2 lbs. Although it does include a fixed cog on the flip side of the rear wheel, I intend to ride it strictly as a single speed, and hence the inclusion of a rear brake and no foot retention.

Last year, I decided to customize my bike a bit. It was originally built up from spare parts by a friend of mine when I first moved to Japan, and over the last eight years I've been steadily replacing parts and making upgrades. Now, having customized the paint, it finally truly feels like my own. Paint job done with paint markers and masking tape.

Since these photos, I've swapped out the saddle and am currently running some Easton carbon flat bars instead of the bullhorns (gotta switch it up for variety).

Nabiis Alchemy frame, Trigon fork, Sugino cranks, Nitto stem, Rizing bullhorns, Fizik post, Vertex chain. Wheels are Phil Wood low flange laced to mystery rims with double-butted spokes (got the wheels from a friend, which is why I don't know what the rims are).

Never liked the color of the rims, but like them much better now that I've customized them. Was originally going to rebuild the wheels with different rims, but these are just so well built I won't bother until the rims wear out or get damaged.

When I received my new Wabi Classic a couple of weeks ago I was happy with everything except the very narrow 50 cm riser bars and narrow 10 cm grips. I also don't like using cross brake levers on the ends of bars, preferring MTB levers instead. So, I've redone the cockpit with Nitto B809 63cm riser bars that I cut down to 59 cm, Dia-Compe Diatech Tech 99 brake levers and ESI Fatty's 13 cm wide grips. I did have to buy shims to adapt the 25.4mm bar to the 26.0mm stem. This has added about 1/2 lbs to the weight, bringing it up to 18.7 lbs. The added cost was just under $200, bringing the total amount spent to just over $1300.

Thanks! Yeah, I found "a" magic gear. This gear - 52:14; 99 gear inches - was at the top of, but inside of the target range.
I've ridden the bike three times - 20 mile loop with my club - and absolutely love it!
