Box store rear shock size?
What is the standard size of the rear spring shock unit on most low end box store bikes?
Looking to upgrade the rear suspension on my CCM Torrent and can't figure the right length
150mm,155mm,165mm....**********?

"Standard Size"? Whatever was the absolutely cheapest that week. Best bet, put a ruler on it, mount bolt to mount bolt, find one the same or close length to match. Watch the mounts, they do vary.

You need to know the stroke and the eye-to-eye length. I'm thinking the cost may more closely approach a whole new bike than you'll like. Good luck.

This is the "silk purse from a sow's ear" problem. The cost of a good quality shock will be more than your entire bike and the rest of the bike will still be low rent.

Good shocks ARE expensive, but you can still get cheap ones, just getting the right one is HARDER as they don't tend to give great specs on low end parts. Here is a link to help you determine just what size you have and what to look for.

What's your goal with the bike? What do you plan on doing with it once it's upgraded?

The rest has been upgraded, the frame and rear shock is all that is stock. And i must say,it is a fantastic bike!
I think it will take a 165mm after messing around with it all last night.
Problem is the eye to eye will change a lot depending on where the preload ring is set.
Thanks for your input guys!
