Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So I texted a cardiac surgeon about a mutual patient yesterday. Told him I wanted to discuss but not urgent. He did not get back to me, so today I sent him this text:

"Bueller??"

He called me back and we discussed the patient.

He then said, there is a second patient. I said huh? He said patient named Bueller.

SMH. I had to explain to him the pop-culture reference. He is in his 50's and old enough to get it, I had hoped.

Maybe he was just a little too old to watch a movie about a high school kid ditching school and it slipped under his radar.

Yeah, maybe I should have used an older reference. We are all products of our times.

You might like this. Went for an INR this morning. Health care worker gets on the elevator with her mask down. Goes to my floor. She works in the office where I am going. After I check in I go to the waiting area. Woman passes close to me, still with her mask down. I move away. She asks me if something is wrong. I told I had to ride the elevator with her unmasked and now she’s walking around the suite doing the same. “I was sipping my coffee.”, which was a lie, even if it had been a valid excuse. Complained to my nurse, who I have a good relationship with. Sad thing is that she was one of maybe 3 I saw in the building with masks down, and I was only there for maybe 20 min. tops.

Great workout this morning, overcast, felt hugely powerful. And despite that, Garmin came back and said "... yeah but I think your FTP is 285 instead of 290". Everyone's a critic.

I suspect its reasoning was the higher-than-normal HR, which easily exceeds anything I've done outdoors on the bike, ever.

I took a bike to Nantucket Island (off the coast of Massachusetts). There is a cop there to prevent people riding bikes on the cobbles In the middle of town. They are pretty big, I would never try to ride a road bike there. There is a cobbled old road from the days of the Pilgrims that is cobbled with stones they found in the woods, many different sizes. I have ridden it on a good mountain bike. It's a lot of work, you can't look away for a second.

It's something in the computer realm. He's a coder, or some such.

Functional Threshold Power. It's what every workout is based upon. You train around it, on it, under it, near it, and especially over it.

Same here. I even expect people to miss references from "cult" movies like Big Lebowski or Caddyshack or Holy Grail. I would think Bueller should not be so niche.

I work with people that have never seen those movies, or almost anything released before 2000.

The Godfather, Goodfellas, Scarface, Tombstone. They've never seen them.

Straight Outta Compton is a really good film. O’Shea’s son is terrific, and a dead ringer.

My favorite N.W.A track.
