First tour done - a bit optimistic

When my buddy and I started touring in the 70's the guy at the LBS wisely told us to limit riding to 60 miles a day max, and to try to stay in the 40-50 miles per day range. It makes for a much more pleasant experience he said. Turns out he was right. Break camp by 9am, finish riding by 2 or 3 in the afternoon and lots of time to set up camp, play around and rest. No purpose in turning a tour into an endurance event.

It takes a couple days to get into routine, big miles early will burn you out. Aim for 75 miles +/-, but don't make reservations, That can lead to a ride that feels like a death march. Start early and settle into a comfortable pace.
