Bottom bracket question.

My bike has a adjuster cup and lock ring on both sides for some reason. Any reason why I should correct it? Seems to work just fine.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I had a MTB that had fixed nds, and adjustable ds. It was the only time I've ever seen that with English threading.

Perfect for fine tuning your chain line. Might be standard on cartridge bearings, I don't know.

Derp! Misread. I did have Miche like that once. I assumed like someone above, it was to achieve a perfect chainline.

What kind of BB? I'm assuming Italian or French. Maybe english if the threads were damaged and retapped the other way.

I had a mavic threadless BB and it had lock rings on both sides. Otherwise if it works then Bob's your uncle.

I did not know this!

A number of cartridge BB came with lock rings on both sides. Suntour VX, Stronglight Spiedel, EDCO to name a few.

FWIW, Old SunTour BB cartridges had lockrings on both sides; the English thread version uses a left-hand thread ring on the drive side, color-coded so you don't mix them up:
