Best adhesive for a head badge?
I’m about to build up a newly powder coated 83 Trek 720 and am wondering what is a good adhesive to attach the head badge with. It was glued on originally.

I use clear silicone adhesive for Litespeed head badges.
A thin coat covering nearly all of the back surface works well.
Permatex is the brand I have now.

I used some 3M double-sided tape on my commuter on top of powercoat. Very thin, like Scotch tape, but with a very tenacious adhesive on both sides. Obviously, the badge has to fit pretty snugly against the tube, since the tape isn't a space-filling foam tape. It's possible to pry the badge off for repositioning, but it's not going to come off accidentally...it's really sticky stuff.
I don't have the dispenser handy, but I'm pretty sure this is the stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Double.../dp/B0000DH8IT

Despite the appearance, this head badge is not held by the rivets but instead by JB Weld:
I passed the frame on long ago to mikemowbz who could likely tell you whether or not the head badge is still attached. My guess is yes

I have used this tape from 3M with good success. It has a thin foam backing, so it can conform to small irregularities. I used small squares of it to mount some puck lights to the bottom of glass shelves 15 years ago and they are still holding strong. My Trek 400T appears to have used a similar tape on the head badge. The left edge is loose, but the rest is holding tight enough that I have no fear of losing it.

I have had good luck with two-sided tape, the BLACK thick stuff with green plastic cover. Not sure where you can get it.
Also available in white.
The THIN clear stuff is useless.
Cut the tape to fit the back of the badge.
Put it in place and TIGHTLY wrap a bike inner tube around the head tube to press the badge in place.
Leave overnight.

My Pinarello came with the badge stuck on with what appeared to be double-sided 3M tape with thin foam. After it was destroyed in a crash, I removed the badge with fishing line. I kept the badge for memories. Also, to keep my ergo cables from rubbing the headtube. i make my own frame protectors. I either make them out of thin brass or I just bend a couple of dimes. I stick them on with 3M tape. After years of riding and repeated washings, none have come loose.

Thanks all for the excellent replies. It sounds like tape is a preferred method opposed to glue type adhesives. I’ll scout around and will be adding a thread for my 720 build when I get farther along. I need some rainy days to keep me from riding or outdoor projects to work on it and we’ve been in a drought😕
