Bike I.D. svp - Mongoose?

L'il help here. This looks like frankenbiked Mongoose of some type. The brand lettering *appears* to start with an M. The forkblade at the midpoint looks like it has a rack mountng brazeon. Input welcomed. This is the only photo available.

The fork mid point looks like a wired computer sensor O ring attachment.

I communicated with the fellow who is offering it. Apparently, he is 6'5 and 250#. He's a hair taller than yours truly and heavier by about 50#. I wonder if that frame groaned under his weight or not and if metal fatigue could be a factor. He said he had a heavy duty rear wheel made for it. He didn't offer the brand and he seems kind of inscrutable in his responses. He wants a dollar a pound (his pounds) for it.

I wouldn't pay close to $250 for that. It would cost $200 to just swap some stuff to make it fit and ride properly.

There is no reason to think the frame is fatigued just because someone rode it who weights 250#.

There is a decal on the headtube. Ask the seller to take a pic of the decal.

Hi, I think he just wants people to show up.

Aside from the horrific stem/bar arrangement I think that bike looks pretty good for a taller rider - Shimano Hollowtech II crankset, owner says it has an upgraded rear wheel, etc. Brand is unimportant - it has the derailleur hanger built into the dropout as opposed to a separate 'claw' hanger as is found on cheap bikes, so it is likely a bike-shop quality frame.

Also, Mongoose had a lot of bikes with non-round tubes, like the flattened downtube on that bike, so Mongoose might be a good guess.

Also, the old French brand Motobecane was bought and bikes are being sold under that name by an American online bike seller, and those bikes are probably made by the same contract manufacturers that makes less expensive brands such as Mongoose and the like... but I am sure there are loads of other possibilities.

Probably a Mongoose, looks like it in the one available photo, anyhow. Could be modern production, not 'classic' 1990's 'Goose. Mongoose was one of those brands like GT and Nishiki that kinda dissapeared around Y2K, then came back as a '2nd tier' brand that you'd find in a Sporting Goods store, like Dick's or Galyan's.

Either way, that guy is really proud of his bike, lol. He's under the same kind of impression that Harley and Jeep guys get, that all the accessories add 'value' to the bike.
It's kind of a hodge-podge of a bike, but I guess if you're a Big&Tall rider, you take what you can find.

*Edit- Noticed the price was in CDN $, so that makes it about $200 USD, which is in line with my local market, which is about ~30% inflated at the moment, smh.

Hello Fish, I couldn't read the ad on FB but I concur that he did seem quite proud of his bike during our conversation. That is fine. He sounds like he had tweaked it just so, for him. And with a lot of luck, someone else too. But, that kind of reminds me of the house seller who charges an extra premium for each and every nail driven simply because it was the owner that did it himself. I don't know if I can pay for someone elses' pride though when there is lots to choose from if we're patient.

.
I didn't know Mongoose ever made a bike like this. Seems like all the Mongoose bikes I've ever seen were heavy mountain bikes or maybe BMX bikes sold at Walmart.

What, a Hybrid?

Yeah, the 80's BMX and early 90's IBOC Mongoose is not the same Mongoose that made this bike.

They changed ownership in the late 1990's and became another downmarket maker of cheap generic bikes trading on recognition of an old name. This is one of those bikes, despite the fancy chainwheels the owner slapped on it.
