Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Virtual miles are not all that boring these days. I remember the days on rollers or a wind-trainer listening to music or watching TV for diversion.

Great stats! I made it to 5,093 miles, 80% gravel? My elevation gain was 82,600ft a whopping 40,000 feet less then 2020.

Ah right. Stupid me. Very short sailing season due to poor wife’s cancer thing (okay now) and Bermuda race cancellation. Should have been many hundreds more!

I'm sure most of the elevation gains were from the sailing.

7500 less than 1k indoor. Prolly closer to only 500 indoor.

Distance does not interest me.

Elev Gain: 553,652 feet
Distance: 5,111.5 miles

Flat miles are boring. All road, never used a trainer in my life.

Also ran over 200 miles (mostly flat, haha)

2021 was my first full year back in several years. COVID and the addition of a smart trainer has really changed how I ride/exercise/train. I don't go out with super big groups anymore, and I avoid riding with people who I don't trust to be responsible as much as possible. I also don't worry about going out on the road in the cold and the wet (MTB and CX notwithstanding).

So, I ended up with:

3132 mi, 161 hrs, outdoors
4178 mi, 205 hrs, indoors

I'll take it.

I ended up with just over 9200 total miles; I don't break it down but I'm guessing ~800 of that was indoors.

This year I'm getting a little more serious about structured training just to give a few big events a go. One part of that is focusing more on time and TSS than miles. I'm doing my best to shift my mindset, but after quite a bit of time thinking about weekly and monthly mileage, it is taking some adjusting.

Good year

341 days of riding
10,767 miles

At 71 and retired I have the freedom to ride whenever. I ride in all weather conditions, just dress accordingly. Stopped riding indoors 30 years ago, too boring. Happy new year and good riding to all.

Happy New Year to all.
2021 miles look to be just under 5000 at 4998. First full year of riding. 100% outdoors as I don’t have an inside setup. Love BF.

Thx to all!
