I’m sure you would. I’m just out riding, and observing what I see.

The key is to ride below your average speed in an area with lots of cyclists training and then accelerate to catch or pass them. If they don’t want to catch you, try the other way around.

I chased a guy who was my better for several miles and another guy started chasing me. The guy caught me and we both chased the faster guy trading pulls. After another couple of miles the buy that caught me said, “That guy is really tough” and said he had to drop. So I watched the first guy disappear around a corner but then saw a sign, One Lane Road Ahead, Prepare to Stop. And there he was stopped ahead. I told him I had been trying to catch him for six miles and he said he knew and then said he was doing 20 minute intervals and had just finished his first. He looked to be in his later 30s. After we could go, I went first and never saw him again for the remaining 5 miles until I got off the island.

That night I received a Follow request on Strava from the guy I TRIED to chase down. He found me using Flybys.

They can tell that you're a serious cyclist, not one of them poseurs.

Maybe you're passing them in the opposite direction.

I get passed by all types of handlebars, clothing, and so forth. So my hunch is that nothing you can do is likely to make me more or less interested in racing.

You have to lock eyes with one of the more twitchy looking ones and give him a just slightly arrogant expression. That might trigger him. After that you're on your own.

I seem to get passed more often when I’m wearing my King of the Mountains jersey, covered with polka dots.

I figure these passes are of the “who is this guy kidding with that jersey” variety.

Are you kidding? No one wants to get near that ticking time bomb of crabon fibre between your legs.

It is also the jersey that looks most like a clown suit.

Be sure to look over your shoulder often and give the look to approaching cyclists, or cyclists you've just passed.

No cyclist can resist the look. It's like shave and a haircut to a toon.

Be sure to keep plenty of dip in one water bottle.

You have to understand that probably less than 2% of cyclist think that racing is a big deal.

3% of the 31% of people who know someone who rides a unicycle also eat 4% of the worlds cherry flavored Twizzlers. None of that has to do with this thread but completely useless information that I pulled from betwixt the old brown cheeks of knowledge.

Though the point of the thread eluded him, Mr'bent popping in made me wonder. Would seeing a 'bent trigger a flat bar/hybrid/mtb racer?

I got dropped by a guy on a flat bar yesterday and I was looking quite racy. It was 100 degrees and I donated blood about 11 am but I aint making excuses.
