Addiction 2022.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After a lovely night sleeping in the airport I had to take a uber from JFK to LGA to catch the earliest flight home.

The uber driver felt the need to slam on the brakes whenever his wheels encountered water as if that would some how prevent hydroplaning. Keep in mind it was raining during the drive, so a lot of brake action. Thank full it was 4 in the morning and the roads were empty.

We have a lot of small man-made drainage ditches and they are full of carp. I was working on a bridge many years ago and one of the workers made a hook from a piece of tie-wire or nail, baited it with corn from the field, tied the hook to string and spent his lunch time catching 12"-15" carp and throwing them back in the water. I've never seen a grown man laugh so much.

Messy Monday commute. Luckily the roads here are just wet, with lots of slush on the ground.

The shop I was going to pick it up from sold it while I was still suffering from indecisiveness.

I did however, order some Zipp 303S for the bike I don’t yet have… my wife is going to love that

17 inches of snow on the ground this morning and an expected 8 more through the day. Roads were not good on the way to work, but hopefully better to go home at noon.

What are you planning on for tires? If you still have some POEA around, I'd be interested to hear if yours stay bead-locked when deflated. None of the three that I used on the Zipps would stay put, but if Schwalbe tweaked their bead diameter or something, I'd love to run another set of 'em.

honestly that may be the main bike while I wait for an Aspero. I want to offload the R3 while I can still get a premium. I mean- the pros closet offered me 3K cash which is what I paid for it.

Was actually thinking of those or 5000S TR if I can find them

That's awesome - I'd do that in a heartbeat and move on.

Ah. Yeah. I'd like to try those, too, but I still haven't seen them for less than $80 each or so - I just can't do that. In general, 28mm tubeless inventory is tight... fingers crossed, I have another ~5k miles before I need to buy some more tires, though.

Envious.

We only got a few inches of snow overnight. No snowblower required to get Mrs. rjones28 off to the radio station. But, it's still snowing.

I am fairly certain my wife thinks I am nuts considering how much I love the R3, but, I went through all of the events I have this year with her and every single one is gravel or gravel adjacent- so she’s starting to get why I want my main bike to be the bike I ride on these events.

the next trick will be convincing her to let me keep the revolt as the bike to have at the other house

Discuss.
