So here is my latest build and first C&V build. 80's Nishiki touring frame. Not sure of the year, I pull this out of our local co-op. The stem and bar are temporary. I have non-aero levers, a more appropriate handlebar and a better stem in the works.

I don't have any from when it was together. I am waiting for the local bike shop to recut the bottom bracket, which was stripped on the right hand and I have built up with bronze.

I really, really wish I could find a Nishiki exactly like that. It's even my size!

The brown Nishiki, ummm Wow!! I love it. Looks almost English in origin. That may have been the look they were going for when they built it though,,,,BD

Two questions...One, what is the serial number and it's location? Two...what is that in the 3rd photo?

Looks like the 3rd photo is the original head badge.

Serial number, please and thank-you! Component date code info too, if you've got the time. Almost certainly late 1970s.

Almost positively a 1985. Post the serial number, please and thank-you.

Bicycling did a feature on tall bicycles in their February 1987 issue. That exact model, color and size was tested. However, considering the time lag of writing the article and getting a magazine to print, there is the possibility that it may be a 1986 model. Regardless it's crica 1986/1987. FYI, original price was $339. Again, can ask for the serial number? Thxs.

The serial # is MYD5493 and is located on the underside of the bottom bracket shell. (There was also a grease nipple there although there was no way for the grease to get to the bearings - it just went everywhere, all along the chain stay etc)
And yes, the third item was the head badge.

My travel beater Italian by way of Japan entry is surely not as compelling as many others here, but I've grown sort of attached to my 80 Piaggio Bianchi SS in a vintage burnt orange, complete with pedestrian stamped dropouts. This Columbus Aelle R beast has seen me on just about ever city trip, including 50 miles of the C&O Canal . It's the ultimate beater that you dont even need to worry about locking unless overnight.

IMHO, your Raleigh is just about the most beautiful bike I've ever seen! That combination of blue, silver, chrome and gold is absolutely gorgeous.

Sanki!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my Sanki Sprint. It originally had diacomp centerpulls, suntour v-gt derailers. it had some really neat uniquely drilled hubs. Original handlebars were a really narrow 38cms. The bottombracket is a Mt. Bike size 73mm. I've only seen them in the Pacfic Northwest. On My tour I Saw one In Portland's Citybikes, another on the U of O campus, I got mine through Ebay from a man near Redding, Ca.

End of my PacCoast tour in 2006
new parts include (obvious)wheels, Fork(old one's steer tube got bent in an accident), free campy brake, cheap campy pedals.

head badge

Pump detail

Old bike portait with original wannabe Pugeot crankset

Hey, there was a "frame ID" thread here a couple weeks ago, where the frame had been repainted, but had those indentations in the top and down tubes. If I weren't so lazy, I could look it up. Perhaps his was one of these Sankis.

Very Nice! It deserves bigger more detailed pics!

The frame design is similar to the one made popular by GT Bicycles.

Hi all,

The right bike. The left is 100% American iron!

The right bike is a Koga Miyata SkyExpension. US counterpart sold as Miyata Elevation 12,000. It is the model Greg Herbold raced downhill in the final years of his pro carreer. My SkyEx is of the 1995 model year. I believe this is the final year for Japanese Miyata frames with Koga.

Oh ..and you don't see them very often

Miyata Century

If find this belongs here too, as it celebrates 100yr of bike building by Miyata =>

Year is 1990. A -not very thick- layer of 14k gold used for the lugs. This is my rider. I am keeping a 2nd NOS one as a kind of 'reserve' ...somewhere under the soil

Posted this in a separate (and so far ignored) thread: just acquired 1983(?) Nishiki Sebring in nearly new condition. Even the chain is barely worn as confirmed by my gauge. Pics taken immediately after I brought it home, no cleaning. Lower end of their line but still nice. More detailed pictures, including serial number on BB, here.

("Cruiser" jpegs in that index are of a Taiwan Schwinn I took as part of the deal.)

Too big for me (sucks being short) but I'll see if it'll fit my niece, who is making (probably not very) serious noises about riding a century with her uncle, before flipping it.

Just getting into vintage so I have much to learn.

Nice Nishiki!

...didn't they make the American Eagle from back in the 70's?

I had a silver 26" frame A/E that I rode back in the mid '70s in a couple of local bike events....they were 25 mile events and you had to get sponsors per mile.....it was called "Ride A Bike For The ********" and you would receive an 8x10"-ish orange/white certificate that had the details of the ride....I'll have to look through my stuff and find those certificates because I wrote down what bike I used and how long it took and what "place" I came in....

....sorry, I went off topic a bit
