Shimano XTR rear derailleur is stuck

Shifting problems, I removed my shifting cable finally, and discovered that my derailleur is stuck. It just doesn’t move at all. Any suggestions on what to do next? Is this a common problem with a common fix? I watched a view on how it dissemble this type of derailleur but I don’t know what to look for as an explanation of why this has happened.

IF it WAS working properly, you probably have a tiny pebble binding things up.
They just don't bind up unless they haven't been "exercised" and simply rusted up.

The shifting cable has been removed and the derailleur is at the 2nd largest cog position (not the smallest cog).

I suppose I should take the chain off and take the derailleur apart and see if that will somehow reveal what is going on.

I took off the chain, and the derailleur snapped back to the most outermost position. I guess I’m going to install the chain again and see if it works.
