Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Once one is a sailor, one is always a sailor. Even if not sailing.

It just means I won’t be a yacht owner.

Might crew with Lester.

She has a pretty good arm. Some people characterize it as a "cannon". I tend to agree.

Some people think it's fatiguing to ride a bike for multiple hours in a row. As we know, the body adapts. It's not the squatting. It''s the getting up. She's been doing this for a little while (8 years). Her body has adapted.

TOk the Classique out for a shakedown cruise. First observation is that saddle has to go. It's the original Kashimax Super Pro, and it's one of those that doesn't feel bad the first 10 miles. Problem is, I rode 25. But I thought ahead and ordered a replacement which might even be here tomorrow.

Second observation is that adjusting derailleurs after midnight might not be the best idea. First, I heard a clicking sound in time with the pedals when in the big ring. Turns out that 1) the 'H' limit screw was too far out and 2) the cage was not actually lined up with the teeth on the big ring. Turns out that a hot day when you're dripping sweat, out on the road with no workstand and just a multitool is NOT the best time to try and fix that.

Overall, the bike itself is nice. The gears - 52/40 x 13-32 - are clearly meant for touring, and leave huge gaps in the cassette, so this isn't really the best bike for the 'time trial' course. The time was decidedly slow.

So the Googles show me people saying cable-stretch isn't a real thing. wut

At any rate, I've done several rides since the cables were replaced and now the rear derailleur position is messed up.

My buddy is doing B2VT today, 142 with 9000 feet- he’s in the 21+MPH group and claims to be “way out of shape”

Its going to be a humid 85 ish here today, but I’m only doing 75 w/ 5000. I did pre-hydrate, Velo Vol would be proud

Debatable. 🤔

But not sure having a yacht would make a difference.
