Thread size for shimano rear derailleur
Hello,
I need to tap a rear derailleur barrel screw hole and the screw measures 32 on the gauge. Don't know what that 32 means. What tap size do I need 10-32, SAE, metric? And are all shimano rear mech barrel size the same?

It'd be Metric with a .8mm thread pitch.
1mm=.03937"

I don't think anyone would know what units you are using if you don't know. But if you're using an imperial gauge, then 32 probably means 32 threads per inch. But as Shimano is an international company based in Japan, I would think that the majority of their products use metric fasteners. So if you have a metric gauge, you might want to try it to see if it is a better fit, but some metric and imperial thread pitches might be too similar to tell with a gauge. With the thread pitch and diameter, you should be able to estimate which metric or imperial size it is closest to. 32 TPI is closest to 0.8mm pitch. If the diameter is 5mm, then it could be M5 coarse. But it could also be close to M6 fine, or imperial #6, 8, 10. The diameter will tell you.

I measured a SORA RDER I had laying around and it's 5x.8mm.
It's extremely close to a 10-32. A 10-32 nut screws on to 5x.8mm bolt freely. Just a bit snugger than the correct nut.
