perfect. thanks.

It looks like I should start wearing my aero helmet more before I consider deep wheels again for races.. don't think i will ever go with deep wheels again, unless they're disc

Or.

Arguing to the cycling regulatory bodies that restrictions on aerodynamic equipment should be more lenient.

supply is the engine. (eg. training, power meter, coaching, training peak, etc)

everything else is under the "equipment" category

I thought of you/this post. This year in the RM conf Club is stronger.
Someone else can write USAC a note and splain the transition to them.
While @mike868y is correct, USAC is still using the older designation and has it wrong.
(Div I -> Varsity and Div II -> Club) They have it switched, or maybe they don't. Fewer Varsity riders are making the top 5 than the Club riders - in Rocky Mountain - Colorado/NM region.

Yeah. My team was very confused about which to select and I noticed that at least a few of the guys from my conference that selected the d2 (Varsity?) race even they are definitely a club school. TO make this even more confusing, my team won the D1 title in our conference despite being a club team (D2?).

I imagine USAC will just give us the right numbers and tell us when to show up at packet pickup in Grand Junction,. All I know Is I don't have to race against the Marians and Lewis/Clark racers of the world; which should make our race in the club side more bearable hahaha.

Eh - I have done collegiate nats, and not having Lewis/Clark & Marian in my races would have made that experience substantially different.

There would have been plenty of people in there who were faster than me - but there wouldn't have been multiple coordinated hit-squads of 6(?) guys taking turns smashing the field, for the duration of the race.

the deep squads are very clear on how to work over the field, and they do it well. Racing against squads with depth is a totally different experience than racing against a "normal" collegiate team that has 1-3 really good racers on it, because you go from "full attacks the entire race" to "we can attack a few times".... over say, a 60' race, that's a BIG difference.

I'm a little spotty on the term 'aero hoods'. IAB is nowhere near the hoods so I have to wonder if they simply mean aero tuck on hoods.

Hoods with forearms level, probably.

I always perform science using an upright posture. No slouching or bending over. Even more importantly I don't write articles about which bike sprints faster from a expert standpoint using a seated, tucked position then throw watts in as the determining factor. I get out there and thrash the bike side to side while changing line as much as permissible. Faster is faster no matter how feverishly misapplied science makes me tingle

low crr + advantageous air density reduces the CdA needed to ~0.26. Definitely doable with a good skin suit and good helmet

i was about 350W for 5 minutes OTF at red kite and was 28mph, no skin suit or fancy helmet necessary. seems reasonable to me

My calcs show I would need 386-398 watts to hold 28 mph (based on ~25-26 mph at 300ish not counting very windy days)

But doing some geometry and considering my pretty un-aero shape I am considering shorter cranks and moving the saddle to the weird forward position I had a couple years back. In hopes of getting lower and being able to stretch out a bit more.

He's also in an indoor velodrome. Indoor times are generally better than outdoor times due to lack of wind.

I can translate 350 watts to around 40 mph on my rollers.

This year junior road a section on his mass start legal bike (DA2 turned road bike) and went 269W (Power Tap) @ 31.9 mph for 14min. That was traffic wind aided. He is more aero now than he was 2 years ago on the same flat segment he's done over 30 times. But seems he's good for about 30mph on that road bike now for ~10min or so on about any flat road w/o wind.

That calculations get off quite a bit here. Junior's 32.2 mph says 610W calculated - guess it was about 300.
