Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So he did.

Then she saw the place. Apparently the renters, a couple, have a ....tempestuous relationship, and the bedroom door was broken badly enough to need replacing, along with sufficient other damage beyond simple wear-and-tear to completely eat up the security deposit and then some. It took her long enough to get the place in shape to rent again that they also lost a month's rent on top of that.

So, if you're going to rent out a place, make sure whoever deals with the tenant isn't a sucker. Her stories definitely cured me of wanting to be a landlord.

My goal is 77kg. Since 1/4 I’m down 10 lbs and my BF% is down 3%.

I did a fake group ride on Zwift. It was ok. It was actually a fairly easy pace for me, except for the six times my signal dropped and I had to dial it up to 400w for 10s to get back with the group.

It is interesting to see the power zone colors on the bottom of my screen. Almost always in blue (Z2) but with some occasional greens and yellows, and a UGE red spike when I get dropped and power back.

I consider it a 21st century fartlek ride.
I did Stage 6 of the Tour de Zwift last night. I was going pretty well, in what I think was the 2nd group on the road, keeping up, going at a pace I figured I could sustain for an hour if I was in the draft most of the time. Then I noticed I hadn't turned on the music - I start up iTunes so all I have to do is hit the 'play' key on the laptop. So I did. And the music didn't start. I got distracted for maybe 3 seconds, and they were gone, and I had to chase back to a subgroup of about 3 other riders who I assume also got spit out the back. We spent the rest of the ride with the group waxing and waning. Sometimes riders would come through from the back and one of the group would grab their wheel, and often we'd end up reabsorbing that rider a few minutes later. Got to the end feeling thoroughly gassed, because there was no point at which I could just coast - at 94kg, Zwift REALLY makes me work on any little rises, so I had to power up ever rise and then push hard on the following descent to catch up to the front, just to have to do it again 30 seconds or so later. So, when we got to the last of 3 laps and got closer to the line, and everyone started droping their hamers, I amazed myself by actually still having 20 seconds of a sprint left.

Lesson learned. Make sure the music is set up, or do without. Riding in a group of 20, the draft effect on Zwift seems to work much better than a group of 4-8. I'd had to rush getting set up - HVAC guys here again and I couldn't start getting ready to ride till 20 minutes before the start. I had almost no warmup and had to do my spindown calibration while sitting in the start pen, with 2 minutes to go.

It stopped snowing here, for now. I cleared the additional three-or-so inches of snow from the driveway with my trusty shovel, in honor of DougRNS . Get well soon.

Naturally, I Stava'd it.

I could live on their cashew chile and cornbread, with no TVP or similar.

I was about to say something mean about you being too fat for this sport.

But I was suddenly inspired to, ahem, be nice and not say that.

No.

According to your average speed, it was not very quick.

We were vegetarian on an off for a long time and still try to eat vegan for dinner a couple of times a week, but once you're old, the low protein density of non-animal sources makes makes it difficult for anyone with athletic pretensions. As it is, I have to supplement to get my daily requirement.

I watched the segment. Several times it was suggestive of China = bad, without actually spelling out what the bad was for someone who only gets medical treatments the normal way (via a doctor). I guess if you're the kind of person who might order mystery pills from China it could be a different story.

Do you really trust a nation that kills its own citizens to be the gatekeeper for your RA meds?

And I’m not anti Chinese, my step mom and step sister are both from China and my dad lived there a number of years. I don’t trust CCP with that data. Period.

So, Pops is being discharged today. I received bad intel yesterday. They only did one stent. On his "main artery" which was occluded by a large blood clot. They removed that and installed a large stent to keep it clear. Apparently they are unable to find the other bypasses from inside the arteries.
