Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best of luck with your ailment. I'm still not a cyclist. Apparently the laser with its beeping isn't working. Prolly my fault. In about and hour I'm going to be electrified. Supposedly to find where to place the steroid injection. I prefer acoustic to electric.

I told my wife yesterday that we may have to move to a house on a bike path if my right eye starts going. I really hate to give up cycling at this point after near 40 years.
That sucks. (Understatement, I know)

Many in your situation switch over to recumbents rather than give up.

I often saw pics of Tom Ritchey and thought "He looks like someone. Who does he look like???"

It's Dickie Betts!

I find myself filled with trepidation about the upcoming shakedown ride on Mrs. Peel - what if I don't like it? I mean, I haven't ridden a bike with non-aero brake cables and friction shifting since 1974. What if it's crap?

Then again, I've worried similarly about every single bike I got or built without a test ride. So far, the only first ride that didn't make me fall in love was the Canyon, and that was only because the handlebars were too high.

what’s a good wheel set for someone around the 230 weight. Price range 500 max.

Dunno, but I can tell you those Fulcrum Racing 5s lasted a decade with me tipping the scales between 215 and 235.

230lbs isn't *that* heavy - most non-weenie wheels should be fine, unless they're really a slam-dancin' on the pedals kind of rider. And yeah, Fulcrum would be a good place to start, on a budget.

I have not seen them both together, definitely operating under the assumption they're the same guy.

I had custom wheels built for the Battaglin - 28F/32R, Velocity Fusion rims, White Industries hubs - that carried me maybe 8000 miles and have only needed truing once, and that was only a slight wobble, which only bothered me because I keep my brake pads close to the rim. Cost me $600, but a lot of that was the hubs. So, you know, custom is another way to go.

We saw Frampton at the Madera County Fair, (CA) maybe 10 years ago. One of the best concerts ever.
