Kings Mountain Road - Harassment by man driving black RAM truck

Me and my friend riding up Kings Mountain Road in Woodside on Sat May 8, 2021 in the morning around 9AM. There were construction on the side of the road so we rode a little more in the lane. This guy in black RAM truck passes us and promptly stops in front of us to block our progress. We were puzzled as we were riding normally, and even if there are issues with speed (we are climbing after all), we are properly sharing the road. I rode around on the left side, and he ranted at me for blocking traffic "around the bend". I was apologetic (I shouldn't of been), said sorry - wanted him just to move along. He appeared quite angry (his face was red, drugs or alcohol? Not sure.) but did drive on as he continued to rant (we can still hear him as he drove on). We continue to ride for maybe 2-4 min. For some reason this guy came back down the road and still had his window down, started yelling and ranting at us again as he drove by. We give some choice words in response. I then told my friend to stop at next house ramp in case the guy makes another u-turn. We pulled our phone out just in case. And as predicted, the guy came back up and drove right up to us (quite intimidating since we were just slightly on the side of the narrow road) and stopped abruptly. He got out of his truck and started to threatening us. My friend called the police and I took pictures of him and his truck as he was getting out of the truck. This ******* continued to rant and threaten for a few min but eventually stopped and left (he did another u-turn to go down) seeing that we were talking to the police at the same time he was ranting. No damages were done, but we reported his truck license plate to the police.

Be careful of crazy people when riding, even in a nice location like Woodside.

Is it okay to post picture of what this guy looks like and his truck (shows license plate) so that we can all just stay away from the dude or in case he threatens other riders in the area? [Edit: As requested, here are the pictures of the person.]

If he threatened you did you film him at all or file a police report?

I like climbing Kings Mountain Road among the other climbs in the area and I know that, while it's not a large percentage of the population, there is an anti-cyclist stance that some of the locals (and people using the roads from elsewhere) have.

I'm not good at taking **** from people which probably isn't a good idea as I'm older now. I realize especially after this last year how nuts people can be and that confrontation is best avoided.

Thank you for the heads up!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to bring my bike lock up on my rides. Teach him not to mess with cyclists. Post a picture of the truck please

Another thanks for the heads-up. I'm up there on my rides. If you can't post the pic, maybe you can email it to those of us that want to see it?

Please do, with the license plate. I've been meaning to go up kings mountain everyday but have been complacent, this is more motivation to get out there. If he is regularly on that road harassing cyclists I should run into him. Im huge and intimidating so I doubt he will mess with me, but if I know the license plate I'll talk to him. Im also a drunk so hopefully I can get through to him without having to smash his windows

Sorry you had to deal with that. I usually feel safe on King's mountain and Montebello. hwy 9, 35, 92 not so much. People on those three hwy's expect to be able to go 50+ mph right next to bike with very little distance between you and the car.

I was there this morning and it was one of those quiet moments when there was no car around. Heard a diesel behind me and this thread flashed in my head. It was a Ram but it was dark blue. lol

Glad it wasn’t the same person. We just want to enjoy our rides.
What’s with the popularity of the RAM trucks?
Stay safe!

And why is it always some fat-ass in a RAM truck? Whether it's coal-rolling, yelling, or just general *******ry, it always seems to come from a RAM. Required for admission to the RAM Club?

I'm thinking that we should make this guy famous, but I'm not really sure how to go about it.

Hey, I take offense at that. I own a black RAM with duallies, diesel and tinted lights and I respect bikes on the road.

Yes, when we pulled to the side at a house entrance ramp, my friend was on the phone with the police at the same time I was taking the picture of the guy and the truck. The police has the license plate information.

Cool. Just saw in your OP that you mentioned providing the plate info to the police. If any of us come across this knucklehead and he tries the same thing we can build on your report.

Bigbus Rotten apple giving RAM Club the bad rap. The unfortunate thing is with continued bad optics - there has been previous incident where RAM truck appears in the news/report.

Sorry, bad generalization on my part, but you MAY be the exception to the rule, haha. In all fairness, the Ford F-350 guy seems to be common, as well. And I like Ford trucks.

Ooo. Meme time? Parked in the middle of the road + standing literally in the middle of the road + pointing at others (who are one the *side* of the road) and yelling “Get off the road!”

PRainC Think about reporting this to the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition.

They may be able to get some local government office involved.

Probably his ego got threatened by people being able to go up a hill without a truck, and being able to see their own private parts passed the belly.
