Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Didn’t ride this morning because I figured I would be sore, went riding with Lily and felt fine. Felt great all day and at 8 pm I hit a wall. My legs just got super tight and I got super fatigued. Foam rolling and going to bed. Hopefully get some miles before work tomorrow.

BTW whyfi, it’s a lot more fun when someone else is sharing the pain. 5 hours alone with just me and my head is not recommended.

I'm the opposite. After a long solo ride I'm actually a lot easier to get along with.

When I have a crick that definitely isn't coming from the seatpost, it's pretty much always the seatpost

In a sane world, you could fit all your needed tools in a single drawer. Four screwdrivers, a set of wrenches, a set of sockets, a a few hex keys, a hammer, some pliers, and maybe a few other ones.

Why do you need four screwdrivers? I use a 14 mm socket on the cranks. Otherwise I haven't used a socket wrench in years.

Ah, sweet relief! Pedaling isn't dead silent, but it's a soft, quiet creak at high guaddage, as opposed to the crick-crick on every single NDS pedal stroke. And, I think that that's what it was - the NDS pedal. I could actually feel the crick-crick with my left foot, so I pulled the pedal, cleaned and re-greased the threads and re-installed. There were also a few chainring bolts that took a little snugging, but I'm thinking that it was primarily the pedal.

In any event, I'm feeling much better about it. Another long ride with that noise, 'specially after trying and failing snuff it, would have bugged the hell out of me.

Ha - I like that alone time. I mean, I like riding with others, too, but my demons are well-behaved when being put to work.

Just a thought: does walking or cycling produce the pain while you’re doing it, and does stopping relieve it?

Presumably, this is what's in your tool box.

walking has no effect only the sitting position does. Lying on my back is fine. Sitting in a soft chair causes gradual build up of pain and by the end of the day it's quite flared up. cycling causes pain quickly and the pain lingers for a long time afterwards (Days).

Good point. There should only be two, a big one and a little one. But the profiteers at Big Tool created two different systems of screws.

I don't know how you can avoid using a socket wrench, unless you have someone else do all your assembling disassembling tasks.

I don't remember the last bike I had which had a 14mm crank bolt.
