Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Apparently used Saturns have gone up in price more than any other vehicle lately.

The market gets it.

Probably because they've approached scarcity due to attrition.

Maybe if Mrs. datlas gets a look at that she won't pine for an MX-5 anymore.

Dropped my stem 7 mm this morning. I really liked how it felt, and I didn’t mind being on the drops at all. Steering is def. more responsive l, will have to be careful with crosswinds.

Question. I left a 3 mm spacer forget underneath the stem, can I put the stem directly on top of the head set or should I leave a spacer there.
Looking at the picture, it looks like my bars should be slightly rotated forward. Thought?

Looks good. No spacer required under stem. Yes, your bars should probably rotate a bit; however, that will also increase your effective drop in the hoods and you may have to compensate with a spacer. In my experience, drop should be increased in small increments over weeks.

Cool! thanks!
Missed your last sentence. I’ll prolly just rotate the bars first and keep riding it as is. I hadn’t planned making such a big change but I figured, wth, if I don’t like it I’ll put it back. Keeping the Ritchey as is for now.

Hey, if it feels good, ride it! That said, rotating the bars will make you look more "elite," even at the cost of a spacer. Uptilted bars are a bit of a wanker look in my opinion.

Combine with UShip (see post #7725) and datlas can have it in his driveway with just a few clicks.

It's the same car as the Pontiac Solstice. Really hard for me to drive due to lack of leg room. When I had to work on one I would con someone else into driving it in for me if I could. Here is one for $12k

AKA the Pontiac SLOWstice in iRacing, but this Sky is a little faster than a stock Solstice.

I guess it would have to be for Mrs. datlas considering the height restrictions.

There were no turbo Solstices?
edit: They were called Solstice GXP.

The GP was supercharged. Those engines ran nice, felt like a torquey V-8. Guy at work bought a supercharged Regal for his mother. She demolished it.

Yeah I reckon GXP isn't that specific about what hot rod parts are added.

Sometimes I think if a motor goes on one of the minivans I'll grab a sweet deceased grandma Regal out of Sun City and put the 3800 in the minivan. I doubt I'd want to do all that work in reality, though.

I'm too lazy to look it up right now but if you google around you can find this -- back in the late 90s/early 00s someone at Hot Rod magazine stuffed a Cadillac 500 big block into a Chevy Chevette and ran 11 seconds with it at the track.

My first car was a Chevette -- stick shift with a horrible clutch and barely enough power to pull itself. I always thought it would be fun to do something like that but the reality is that's just too much work and money and I'm never going to do it.

I remember that Chevette. Another favorite was when they put a second engine in the back of a Honda hatchback.

Swapping a blown 3800 into a car that has a 3400 is much easier, but not super simple. The minivans passenger side brace goes right where the 3800 coil packs and fuse box are, so would have to deal with that (maybe move the battery to the back and put the coil packs in the battery hole), and you have to bring pretty much all wiring harnesses over, and the dashboard display... who knows what else.
