No, I wash my socks after I ride. Can't say that about my shoes, which is why I wear socks. The missus gets mad when the cleats ding up the drum in the washing machine.

There has been a lot written about the foot health implications of going sockless. I won't repeat them here. This should be common knowledge by now.

I'm not an advocate, for reasons that are well enough established that they shouldn't need repeating.

Since it's so much easier to wash my socks than my shoes (plus the whole socks moving with my feet and providing a barrier against friction from the shoes thing), I always where socks with my shoes.

When I was a teen, well over a half century ago, we wore loafers (Bass Weejuns) w/o socks. I don't recall that they were particularly comfortable, that wasn't the point. Today, I can't imagine any of my cycling shoes would be tolerable over a sock-less 50 mile ride. Fortunately, a substantial sock is now approved by the fashionistas. BTW, we need Timmy back for this sort of discussion.

I occasionally go sockless on the home trainer.

I have not found wearing or not wearing socks to have a significant effect on cycling shoe odour.

I will wear some of my natural leather street shoes without socks, sometimes.

I will never, ever, wear running shoes without socks.

Careful now. I might feel compelled to again post a pic of my toenail fungus. It was a big hit a couple of years ago.

I wear my "darn tough socks" both on and off the bike, I'm pretty much all wool all the time any more.

I always wear socks with my cycling shoes. I only wear my shoes when it is too cold for sandals (my shoe covers don't work with the sandals) but not cold enough for boots.

I only wear socks with my Nashbar cycling sandals only when its too cold for bare feet. The sandals are a lot wider and thus more comfortable so I wear them as much of the year as I am able.

I'll bite. Times that I won't wear socks...

1) Deck shoes like DockSiders or the like. These are leather and made for casual wear and are worn infrequently, so plenty of time to dry out.

2) Sandals during warm weather, but not cycling sandals.

3) Flip flops.

If I happen to be riding a bike wearing any of the above, then I am likely riding without socks. It doesn't happen much, except riding rented beach cruisers on vacation.

I went to an all-boys prep school in New England from '79 to '83. The jacket and tie type of prep school. Loafers without socks was pretty much de rigueur for many in the fall and spring.
