25.4 quill stem to 22.2.
I'm riding after significant physical health challenges. Road bike too stretched out and rigid of a ride. LBS has almost no bikes and none coming in on the horizon.
I'm riding a 2000-era Trek Singletrack MTB. It's a bit too small - especially in the length.
The original stem is quite tall with a short length front-to-back. (Quill stem in a threaded fork/headset.)
I need a longer stem.
The problem is that the original stem is 25.4 and I cannot find anything that has the necessary height and additional length.
I have a long quill stem and quill stem extender that will accommodate the needed length and height. But they are both for 22.2.
You can get a tall quill stem adapter to use threadless stem (e.g. the high-rider-stem-adapter from Soma Fab) but they are also 22.2.
I know you can shim handlebars safely. But can a quill stem be shimmed so I can use the 22.2 in a threaded fork that wants a 25.4? Seems a bit dicey to me.
Any ideas, experience and links/references much appreciated.

Are you talking about the steerer ID of 25.4 or the handlebar clamp?
Added: If you are looking for a long 1-1/8 mtb quill stem, eBay is your friend.
It may be the one vintage item that is “not” in high demand.
More… You can also get a 1-1/8 (25.4 ID) threaded to 1-1/8 threadless adapter and add a 1-1/8 threadless stem. Finding a 25.4 handlebar clamp is getting tougher.

So you have a threaded steerer tube that has a 1 1/8" outside diameter and a 25.4" inside diameter, and you're looking for a quill stem with a 25.4" diameter shaft that's pretty tall and pretty long. Correct?
If so, here's one that might work: https://www.amazon.com/Sunlite-Adjus...8-1&th=1&psc=1
But you might want to consider installing a 1 1/8" UN-threaded fork. That way, you can install whatever length stem you want, and if the steerer tube is uncut, you can infinitely raise the height of the stem by stacking spacers underneath it, giving yourself a custom fit.

P.S. I wouldn't try to shim a 22.2" quill to 25.4". Someone might correct me here, but it seems like you'd have to shim both the wedge bolt and the shaft, and I wouldn't risk cobbling something together on such a critical part of the bike.

Bike is a circa 2000 Trek MTB.
Stem is original. And its diameter is 1'' = 25.4mm.
SonO is right, there are lots of MTB 25.4mm stems available online.
It was easy to find a 150mm reach stem for $20. It is way to short in terms of height. But I ordered a 25.4 stem extender (quill at 25.4 o.d. male end and 25.4 i.d. at top, female end). This will give me the height I need.
The adjustable angle stem that Rolla suggested is not tall or long enough. The original stem rises 7'' and has reach about 120mm. It is shaped like a Y without the upper-left arm.
My story is this is before they started making very significant adjustments to frame geometry. The frame has a horizontal top tube, short head tube, etc. The only way to get upright riding position was to put a stem like this on it.
The 25.4 quill to threadless stem adapters I have seen are all significantly too short.
Appreciate the help.
Will post an update when I get the parts.
Thanks.
