So most of Detroit has been under water for a couple days and lucky me is on call till 6am Monday. Friday I was called in 3 times. The 3rd was 3 separate calls, I was out for just over 24 hours. Apparently Sunday around 1:30 am they tried to call me in, but I was asleep on my phone, dead to the world. I went in @ 7am for another 5 hours. From what I have heard the pumping station that handles the storm water died. All the low lying areas, including the expressways flooded. There are wet cars everywhere broken down right where they died. People tried to drive on saturated medians, resulting in sloppy muddy messes everywhere and buried cars. You can't hardly get across town because the roads go underneath the rail lines and they are all filled with water.

Also for my automotive folks. IT WORKED. I shotguns 2 new o2 sensors, a maf and a map at the engine a month ago hoping to correct the alcohol content in the 'puter. Today's reading is 7.8% alchy. Down from 54.3 as it's high.
That's the first time that approach has ever worked for me.

Back from my overnight trip with the boy - the airshow was fun. While the F-22 demo was awe inspiring, the Blue Angels really kicked ass.
Got home to see the transformation of the [former] caterpillar. When we'd left yesterday morning, it had recently attached itself to the underside of branch. Right now, the chrysalis is mostly formed, and looking very leaf-like. You can see the silk sling holding up front end -

My only telephoto lens is a vintage manual focus jobber, so it was spray and pray at the airshow. Here's a few that turned out okay -

Thanks All!
Yesterday was 7th in the 60+ and 15th in the 40+3. Today was 10th and 17th respectively. Since the 60+ race with the 50+, it is much harder than a plain old age group race. Today, there was some pesky dude in a stars and stripes jersey that kept attacking. If it wasn't him, it was the guy that held the hour record for like 20 years, attacking. Jerks. I was hoping my age guys were worn out, so I went on a flyer with half a lap to go. My group rode the 50+ wheels right on by with about 200 feet to go. Jerks.
Back to back crits are hard. The first 10 minutes of the second one are OK, then the next 20 or so have you questioning your sanity, then you settle in to what it is. I'm honestly pretty dang happy finishing square in the middle of the results of the youngsters I was racing with. It was either two crits, or some kind of interval hell after the 60+ race, so I chose the second crit.

proof the the pros are just on a completely different level. I've broken both radial heads (seperately, years apart) and I could barely hold the bars.

Today was peak horsefly day (tabanos in the local parlance). I was glad to have the option of a full face mask. That, along with my sunglasses, kept them out of my orifices. Riding along and looking down at my lap, there were always a few riding the negative air pressure. It was like riding through hail. Truly. Open the car door to get in or out and a couple fly in. This level of concentration won't last long, and then they'll just be that nuisance which keeps you on your toes for the next six weeks. And then they are gone, until next year.
