Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The wrong posts are obvious, but also the website is broken.

Tech team has been notified, but seeing as this is a holiday weekend you might want to dig out that old checkerboard or monopoly game ahead of time. As the Boy Scouts say, be prepared.

Glad you’re okay!

I rode hard with a group, popped a cable, rode home in too high a gear, went sailing in a lot of wind, fixed my bike, and now have to make dinner.

I'm sure it will be fixed first thing Tuesday.

Which covered more distance: bike or sail?

Bike, by far. You need a big-ass, multi-million dollar, crabon, boat with lots of highly skilled people on it, to go as fast as a nearly 65 yo fred in hilly terrain. My ride distance would have taken us all day.

I did the Mount Baldy ride today. There were 12 in our group but maybe hundreds more on the mountain roads as these roads are closed to cars the days around the 4th. The way we went up features a 25 mile climb interrupted by a few short descents. About 4000 feet on the way up and another 1600 on the way back.

It was hot and humid but not terrible. The worst issue I had was my lower back hurt on the last 6 or 8 miles on the way up. It's one of those climbs that seems to go on long after you remember it ending. I took 3 bottles but it would have been nice to have more. Once on the climb there is nothing until the top where I got a huge basket of fries and 2 Cokes and refilled my bottles.

I was the slowest in our group, well I actually shared the honor with another guy, until the heat took it's toll on 2 of the faster riders. I was worried about one of them but he made it. I got ahead of our group on the descent when they stopped and I carved turns on the empty road for a few miles until I was swarmed and dropped by about 10 riders. Once they got by I backed off a little more and just enjoyed the gravity alone until the gate at the bottom. A fun day!

You did not specify the activity times. Could have been a two-hour ride and five-hour sail.

I did the 70 mile hilly ride today. All the fast guys returned today. I was just able to hang for the first 26 miles or so to the first break. It was crazy fast. I popped on a series of climbs that had me just about hyperventilating. 2 guys dropped back and paced me back up.
2nd 3rd of the ride I made it 2 miles with the group. I had to tell them to just leave me . It's fine I know the way. I made it to the 2nd rest stop before they left. And hung with them for a few miles. Hit the big decent, maxed out @ 41.5 mph. And exploded on the next climb.
missed a turn in the last 3rd and ended up with 10 bonus miles.
I still managed 5 achievements. I was ok on the flats but climbing I couldn't breath enough. Its hard to believe 2 weeks off the bike can have this big of an effect.

Also solved my wheel rub problem on Contador. I had GP 4000 on him. They measured almost 28mm in width. I put a set of 5000 on him and it's way better. We'll see tomorow.

I don't think I've seen more than ten cyclists on the road in a day in several years, other than when I went to the US road cycling thing.

it was a gorgeous day. About 84 with very tolerable humidity. We got to the stadium at 12 :15 and hung out in the restaurant and bar area. Had lunch and got some ice cream then went to our seats. Now I'm listening to the Indians play the cheaters Astros.

Would have been a great day to ride.
