If Cav was gonna throw the race, he certainly wouldn't have done it like that, by hesitation. He would have simply sprinted alongside and just not have given it all he had, making it close.

IF... all he had could have indeed beaten van Aert anyway.

You think there is no politics in the international sport of cycling? Such innocence. It's endearing.

I would venture a guess that for you nothing can be taken at face value. There is politics in everything that is done and said. Always a hidden agenda, and lifeís goal is exposing it.

Pretty sad existence.

Whether or not cycling is influenced by politics is a separate topic from whether or not Cav intentionally didn't win the stage.

I hate it when words lose their obvious meaning. "Canceled" meaning having to withstand a little disagreement being one of the more annoying examples. I like it when people are cancelled and get to go on all the major news networks and write an invited op-ed about it.

Yes, clearly, you are a victim here.
Or a hero of truth.

Or whatever your fantasy is here.

Tell you what, give us one single plausible coherent reason, political or otherwise, why Cavendish would have thrown it, and maybe you'd get a listen.

And "politics, duh" is actually not a coherent answer.

...and it must take into consideration what we know of Cav's character as a sportsman. Does he have the personality that would be willing to back away from winning one more time on the Champs (considered the pinnacle win for sprinters), especially with such a monumentous accomplishment attached to it?

Obviously, he did it for the lulz.

"Imagine the POed threads on BF if I throw this!"

Have you figured out the "all Belgians are from an alien planet" part yet?

Eric, I did fifty miles this morning breathing the smoky air from your California wildfires mixed with pollen and diesel fumes. I want you to know that I do not blame you personally. As far as a reason for Cav caving, how about under-the-table money?

Of course! That makes a lot more sense than the factors that we can clearly witness on video, and have been discussed in detail by riders who have actually been there and done that. You must be the biggest Cav fan ever to believe that he would only lose if he did so intentionally.

Maybe he was sad because a dingo ate his baby.

If you apply Occamís razor then you can easily explain why Cav lost the sprint without including politics and under-the-table money. Thatís not to say your theory is definitely wrong. Itís just unlikely to be true.
