Hypno Toad

I'd kinda like a street tire for my fatbike. These are cheap and look like they'd be good for pavement, limestone, and grassy cruising rides.

I like the pattern, but it looks like it may wear quickly.

At only 20 bucks apiece for 26x4" tires, it's hard not to want to try them just to see what they're like. They're not light (1,670g), but I guess also not out of the ballpark for an inexpensive fat bike tire, so it seems like they could be worth the gamble.

If you do try them, I would be interested to know how they work. I have a set of Vee Speedsters (26x3.5") for my Pugsley and they're great tires, but they do have quite a bit of self-steer on pavement unless really aired up.

I agree, after a little more search, I saw this price seems less than trustworthy.

If they are the exact same tires that came with the Sun Spider I have I don't see anything wrong with them, the seem to ride just fine, even did a small climb (rare here in flat Gilbert AZ). That being said I have no other fatbike experience, this is the first one I have ever ridden... Makes lots of noise on the pavement too, like a jeep.

It does look like they'd be noisy and sort of choppy, with the various and separate tread elements contacting the pavement independently. The Vee Speedsters are essentially completely silent, and very smooth. You'll get impact noise just like you would with any tire, but there's no knobby tread noise typical with tires with open tread patterns.

The snow season's mostly over for us in Virginia (probably...), so I put the Vee Speedsters back on my Pugs this weekend for some hard pack and MUP riding. Since they were mentioned earlier in this thread, and since Hypno Toad has a Pugsley, I thought I'd take a few snaps to show how they look on this bike.

As for how they ride, I'd say they're "okay." I don't have a lot of fat tire experience, but I'd call the self-steer on this tires fairly strong, especially if aired down a ways. I think the sidewall says 8-30 psi, and I run them at about 20-25 psi (235 pounds rider). Even at this relatively high pressure, I feel like I really need to brace the handlebar in a corner on pavement. On gravel or dirt, it feels just right. Though these are the 120 tpi versions that are tubeless ready, I run tubes in them.
