Trying to find the Correct way to post a sweet vintage bike for sale

You may still need 5 posts X 2 days for 10 for pics, it's an anti spam measure that serves us very well so...

Glad you found us, welcome aboard and IMO there are 1000's of "sweet" vintage bikes, we're proof of that so a basic description would be nice since you're asking for help, just sayin.

I believe that if you buy the membership that allows you to post in the for sale section you don't have to wait until your eleventh post to post photos.

Assuming you're interested in selling here:

Might be best to go through the usual route. Get people to know a bit about you as more likely to buy from someone they "know" understands C&V than someone they know nothing about.

If you take the fastest route (assuming that does bypass the ten post minimum) and buy a membership it would still be a smart move to post a thread in the other C&V thread "What's it worth". You can start your thread asking worth of your bike and then add photos to an album and ask someone to post them to your thread. Folks will then offer you advice. Maybe someone might contact you with an offer but in that unpaid thread you can't say a price.

Assuming you're asking a general question:

EBay gets most views but there are fees and usually shipping. Local selling (Craigslist, Offer up, Facebook, Kijiji) works quite well if there is local interest in C&V and especially well if you're in a larger urban area.

The Cabe website can be good for the truly old C&V..

Research your bike so you know model, year(s) make and made by whom. Then search eBay / the Cave / on sales forum here for sale examples of the same bike and see what sale prices and results were. You don't just want asking prices in eBay. Look at the bottom left of the eBay screen when searching and check the "Sold" listings as some sellers don't sell. Remember, if not listing on the 'Bay your buyers don't want to cover the non-existent eBay fees you're not going to be paying. If they buy on the 'Bay they have coverage so if not selling there you'll have to be cheaper to be worthwhile.

Here's what you do - get the oldest, crappiest digital camera you own that'll still connect to your computer, then take the bike and lay it down in a patch of weeds, or maybe in a hedgerow, wait until dusk, and as the sun is dipping below the horizon take three fast pics from about thirty feet away, all of the non-drive side. Post those pics on craigslist under the heading 'Road Bike $2000' and in the description don't mention the bike at all but spend two paragraphs talking about how the price is written in blood and that you still have it. Later, when it doesn't sell, lower the price by 50 bucks and add (REDUCED PRICE!) in the headline.

Would you accept the amendment of using a Polaroid instant camera for the pics and then using the crappy digital camera to take photos of the photos, upside down?

Good quality pictures. Accurate and honest description of the bike. Post locally (Kijiji, Craigslist, FB Market Place and others that I don't know of) and on Ebay. Invite questions and offer to send more pictures if requested (be prompt is responding). Determine how much you will let the bike go for (this is hard to nail down due to different values in different locations). Ensure the bike is clean. Be patient. Be prepared to put up with annoying inquiries and low ball offers. Do not let the bike out of your sight unless you have something of equal value as collateral of the buyer's in your possession).

That is all that there is to it.

Fully agree, but most sellers don't seem to be buyers, judging by what I am seeing.

Which is probably just as well, as sellers that do present their bikes well usually ask a small fortune for their perceived treasure.
