What a difference 2 millimeters makes

I was looking at my cleats today and noticed I had almost two millimeters I could adjust them further back. So I did and then went for a ride.

Actually I seemed to click in better. Not sure what's up with that, but it was totally unexpected on my part.

The expected part was that I could tell there was a difference in the leg muscles used. Less calf muscle and maybe more of the quads or something. But by the 10 mile point, that was all in the past and back to normal, though when taking a few last hills with some effort, it did seen as though I was transferring more power to the cranks instead of absorbing it with my foot flexing.

And the 22.2 mile ride was all of 6 minutes faster than the previous ride Wednesday. And I was no more worn out than the two previous rides of the same. This result also puts the yellow socks back in the top spot over the red socks as to which are faster. That I discussed in another thread the other day:

Okay, I'm going to have to eat crow and take back what I said. Monday I rode with yellow socks and today I just did the same ride in red socks. I was 1.7 mph faster or about 11 minutes faster today for the same 22.2 mile route.

I'll have to get more red socks! <grin>
So now I don't know whether to order more red socks or yellow. I guess I'll have to go ride some more and see!
