I'd love to go at least once, but I'm pretty sure any of my low to mid range rattle traps would be laughed off the ride.

Thanks. I thought Eli Wallach may have said it once.

Why do you think that would not qualify?
Bikes do not have to be original. They allow modern rims and tires (just not aero or carbon ones), they allow modern gear train upgrades that at least loosely appear period correct.
There are no rules about fenders.
True the bike would not win any prize if entered in their contest for the nicest original bike but it most certainly would be welcomed and admired at the event.
A better question is do you have the legs and heart to do 205km/10,000ft climbing on that?
The event exists for you to find out.

Absolutely not, indeed if you are doing the long ride (at least in Italy) you'd be smart to bring something that can take a beating.
It is about the ride and a love of old bikes, not some show and tell contest (other than the pre-ride judged event for bikes submitted by people who are interested in that sort of thing).

You know I just realized... what fun would an Eroica ride be if I couldn't record it on my action camcorder? And what about my heart rate monitor?

EXACTLY!

Why such self certain hate for something people have not experienced.

The ride is fun.
The people are nice.
It is not competitive.
No one is judging you or your bike.
The scenery is beautiful.
The courses are challenging.
You can pick how much you want to take on.
The food and support is excellent (wine if you want it, mechanics if you need them).
The event cost itself is reasonable (obviously travel costs can be an issue) and in some part supports a good cause.

I have yet to hear of even one person who has completed one of these Eroica rides regret their experience (although I'm sure a true hater can find one somewhere).

If something as simple as changing your pedals or brake levers to meet the organizers vision for the ride angers you enough to close your mind to the possibility you might enjoy it and justifies a need to denigrate it, then it might just be the problem is you, not the ride.

I suspect you are being sarcastic but, if not, plenty of people do the ride with both (though why is beyond me......I found the need for a modern handlebar light on the long ride annoying).
You can even wear a helmet and lycra shorts!

Please. You know damn well your bike is in the spirit of the event. The cantilever rule was to rule out cyclocross bikes that were common early on. Have you bothered to send someone a picture and ask if it would be OK before assuming it wouldn't and using it as a reason to be a hater?

@Numbskull chill!!!!!!! This thread is not about trashing 'Eroica, its for those of us who either:

1) Can't ride it (for what ever reason).

2) Don't want to ride in it (again, for whatever reason).

Finally, it is also meant as a little tongue in cheek for the other two 'Eroica threads, for us dweebs to show why a bike we own is maybe only slightly off from the 'Eroica Rules, thus disqualifying the bike.

BTW here's another.

OK, Bob, I'll play.
Here is one I was able to sneak by them in Italy.
How many egregious sins can you find (hint, there are at least 8)?
