Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thought Nebraska had the most boring scenery I'd ever seen. Then I drove across South Dakota on I-90.

This week Yahoo had a story on best places to retire and Sioux Falls was rated very high.

100 or higher here for the foreseeable future. Friends are talking about driving to the next valley tomorrow where it will be a little less hot and we won't have to climb back into our valley at the end.

Hot.

Luckily, it’s gonna cool down to the upper 50’s tonight and should be in the 60’s and 70’s for tomorrow’s century. The predicted high is 80.

I am cool with that.

they also make excellent hiking food for the very same reason. very good weight to energy ratio as well, which is important when you are carrying everything on your back.

This is a big part of the reason I've been trying to get together with my friend who lives near Sullivan Canyon. It's always WAY cooler out there than the SGV. Tomorrow, however, I'm stuck riding local. Going to try to get a couple hours in the dirt before 10am.

You’d be amazed. Take a 25 year old on a decent aero frame and a 30 mph tailwind and the speeds are pretty daunting.

I was joking about being able to conquer the incline.

I have no illusion that I could KOM anything.

Maybe a hill that nobody knows about.

we call them chips. same as the hot fried potato chips. If you go somewhere that sells both a scoop of chips is the hot ones, a bag of chips are the cold ones.

Mostly better. I was lucky, for me it was just like a moderate cold with a bit of extra fatigue and chest tightness early on.

I often go this route. A good combo.

We call them chips too. Our UK brethren call them crisps and they call French fries “chips.”

It was great entertainment when my friend left a banana on top of his camera in his bag on a long ride.

Should be fine. I was considering Bouquet Canyon with the Santa Clarita club. Sounds hot but NOAA says 93 at noon when it should finish and its 25 miles of downhill at the end.
Instead, I'll probably drive to Simi and ride with a small group to the west and back. At least we won't have to climb Santa Susana pass at the end. Always a tough finish on a hot day.
