Just another project Mt Whitney.
Pulled this out for some shots. Not sure if this will be my project or if I pass it along to another forumite.

Two Cinellis. On top is a ~1965, 64x61.5 cm ctc. You will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. On the bottom is a ~1972 as I got it via eBay. 60x58cm ctc. I rode it (with significant parts modification, but the frame has not been altered in any way) at Eroica CA 2016 and 2017. It is now down to frame/fork/headset/seat post bolt. I could be tempted to part with it (hint hint).

^Rich, those are both very cool bikes, and you're lucky to have found the big one in your size! Other than the measurements, how do you compare the two? Looks like the upper one has a slightly longer wheelbase and more rake to the fork. Guessing the upper one is a bit more relaxed and stable and the bottom one slightly more nimble, but I'd be curious how they feel to you. Are you more willing to part with the '72 due to fit?

All I can say is that I like the way the '72 rides, but I looooove the way the '65 rides. The most significant measurable differences, besides seat tube and top tube measurements (which are enough to matter a lot, just from a fit standpoint) are: wheelbase ('65 108cm, '72 102.5cm) and tubing ('65 Columbus SP, '72 Columbus SL). The angles are very close to identical. I haven't measured the rakes, but you are probably correct as the difference is seat stay length (44.5cm v. 43cm) does not begin to account for all the difference in wheelbase. I have not measured the trail on either.
Both are smooth, stable, and happy to ridden hard, but the '65 has a snap, a bit of springiness unlike any other frame I have owned, including the '72. That, and the fact that feel like I fit on the larger frame without compromises, are the biggest intangible differences between it and the '72.
I disagree that I am lucky to have found a classic 64cm Cinelli. I am way beyond lucky, and I know it. (And I'm not giving it back. )
And yes, I am willing to part with the '72 because I found the better-fitting '65. The '65 is the one I reach for most now. The Eisentraut and the Ron Cooper get their exercise, but not as much as that big honkin' paint-is-kind-of-beat-up '65 Cinelli.

some lovely sunshine dazzlers on show here. I've got a chrome rear ended Eddy Merckx in Team Panasonic colours and am about to build up an old steel Bottecchia, which I will post pics of as soon as I'm allowed.

A lot of great bikes here. Nice thread idea, @noglider. @fleslider has a nice pic from the top looking down toward the front wheel of a really nice chrome Paramount. Must... Resist... N+1... Sigh...
