A New One On Me = Broken Toe Clip
As I started away from a red light, my toe clip dragged on the pavement. I try to avoid that but it's not terribly unusual. The thing is, the toe clip broke. It snapped clean-off right where the two prongs reach the base.
It was unrideable at that point, so I had to stop. I almost headed for home. Instead, I removed the toe strap and the broken part and continued on my way. I kept worrying about the slippery plastic soles of my shoes allowing my foot to slide off if I were to pedal hard, so I took things easy.
The replacement parts are going to take two weeks to get here. TWO WEEKS to get toe clips from a USA-based shop - something is wrong with that.
While I wait I will use a toe clip taken from another bike. It is a standard clip not a "DEEP" clip, so it won't fit my shoes. Still, it is better than not riding or slipping off the front of the pedal.

...if it helps, when I don't have the correct extra large size clips, I sometimes use a spacer between the clip and the pedal, to make a large one fit a longer shoe.
You used to be able to buy plastic ones, but they are not hard to make yourself out of some scraps of wood or plastic.

And on the road - pull the toestrap out of the toeclip, re-buckle around your shoe at a stop and just put your other foot down. (Or swap the other toeclip over if you are like me and always do the left foot (and virtually always break the left clip).
