Addiction 2022.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Or jury-rigged. In my family that's what we called it, but I did hear it called other names by locals growing up, which I won't relate because they weren't even "okay" then.

Back in Austin. And we thought Colorado was unseasonably hot.

That dman cop thinking I was smuggling weeeeeed got me so traumatized I had two nightmares last night. At least that meant I ripped the cranks off my trainer and PRed a Tacx course.

I believe "jury-rigged" is the same category of thing as "cut the mustard" (instead of muster, as is correct) that sounds close but is not the real saying. Unless we're discussing an actual jury.

Nope.
"Jerry-rigged" is a bastardization of "jerry-built" and "jury-rigged". Jury-rigged goes back at least to the 18th Century.

Around here it’s not unusual to hear, “Aggie engineered.”

That includes pretty much anything fixed with duct tape.

We tend to say "Good enough for government work", but my brother, who only ever worked for various state governments, says, "Good enough for the private sector."

This is turning out to be a maddening morning - I've been waiting to get out for a ride, but there's been light rain since I woke, and the forecast has been perpetually calling for it to clear up in a half hour. Meanwhile, the day is sliding away from me. It may be time to cut bait.

Nah. I have a clear-cut rain policy - I'll leave home under the threat of rain, but I won't leave home if it is raining.

Good ride. Humid as can be, so humid that sweating is minimally effective and I was drenched for much of the ride.

One rider had his Red Etap FD break (looks like cage got twisted?) so he had to get a ride home. Otherwise 100% fun.

I’ll figure that out later.

Speaking (sort of) of wide shoes, I just ordered a set of Lake MX177-Xs for the trainer because my current ones are a decade old and foul, and this way I can use SPDs and my pedals can be a backup for AG's, since hers have been finicky of late.

Ordered black/reflex from BTD, because only the Lake site had the hiviz in stock (which I assume means "in stock"). Bah.
