Very true how he blends in. When I stopped and got the camera out it took me a few to find him again. This guy had stopped to see wjayt I was doing and tild him I was taking picture of an owl and it was hard to point him out to him too, he took a few to locate him even when I pointed him out.

Got out for my first ride since last Sat., about 1 hour on wet roads with wet leaves and beautiful early Fall color. Felt like superman today. LOL, well it was only an hour ride.

Rode up two mountains today. The first was up to Cloud Nine RV Park on my Trek antelope. the other was North Mountain in Hot Springs on my Peugot Course. the tower was the top then I flew down, not bad for a 69 yo guy. Anyway, when I finished I felt very good. last tuesday I went up West Mountain with the group. This is great. U get lots of training effect in a short time.

Don't mince words
Today I rode with 2 girlfriends, one of whom hadn't done this ride before. I logged 67.2 mi., 4:45 ride time, 14.7 mph. I'm embracing the long slow rides. And having fun.

No ride today as the last of the rain pushes through, hopefully without flooding this time. The kid and I are spending the afternoon watching her higher level teammates compete at a gymnastics meet.

Saturday 9/26/09... Great ride today. Stopped at Panera Bread and had breakfast. Wildlife count was rather low today. No deer but I did come across these two giants up in Lake county. They had to weigh at least 25 pounds each. I am not sure if they were gofer turtles or not, they were not in a location that I usually find gofers.
All is well in Slo Spoke Jim's world.
Edit: After doing some research I have found that these are African Spurred Tortoises not the gofer turtles or (gopher tortoises) as I thought. The male can get to 230 lbs.
57.04 (s)miles today
662.36 (s)miles this month
5148.90 (s)miles this year
17 ride days this month (Sept.)

Possibly........or too much time spent reading posts on bike forums
Yesterday I rode 17 miles, much of it through woods, and was startled to have a doe leap across the path fifteen feet in front of me. I was relieved that her four girlfriends waiting in the woods decided not to follow her. Shortly after that, I was looking up and noticed how brilliantly blue the sky was when a snowy egret flew past. I'd never seen one in flight before. Very cool. So we had a flying white egret above a riding blonde eejit.

I left the house a little before 0700 and rode 7 miles to the Withlacoochee Trail and then had a nice ride down to Floral City and back. Saw a nice healthy doe in the woods and when I stopped to watch her she sneaked away from me and walked right past an elevated deer stand. Today is the first day of bow season but lucky for her no one was in the stand. 41 miles round trip then a nice dip in the pool then smoked some mullet for supper.

Big flakes, little flakes but all snow with a few rain spits thrown in. So, outside riding just about done. Instead did 30 min of weights in the gym followed by an hour spin class with an instructor who is the most fit person I have ever met. Not only that but we feed on each other and the rest of the class just has to hang on. Finished up with some Arms & Abs Yoga stuff for 15 minutes. Can you spell: Quivering Jello?

28 miles down the E. side of the Mississippi in Saint Paul and back along the west side, including over the Mendota Bridge where the Minnesota River meets the Mississippi. Very nice.
Tomorrow I'll squeeze in a quick 18-20 miler before heading to the airport for a week long business trip. Not sure how I'll cope without any access to exercise for 5 days. The hotel has a fitness center, but I'm not sure if I'll even have the time to find it.

Today I rode to the Big Dam Bridge ride. I didn't ride in it, but I helped at the finish line. My ride there and back was a little longer than the shortest BDB ride, so I didn't feel like I missed out on anything.
It was kind of frustrating though. The most direct way was across the Big Dam Bridge, but they had that closed off. That meant that the fastest way to where I was to help, was to ride directly into the path of the oncoming mass of BDB cyclists as they started out.
I hustled on towards downtown and got lucky. I made it to the starting line just before the ride started. I rode up the Main St. bridge and over La Harpe just as hundreds of cyclists were poised below to start pedaling. It was quite a sight.
I had a little time once I was downtown so I stopped in a McDonalds for some food. While I was eating I saw a 3 bus caravan heading towards the Verizon Arena and knew it had to be Taylor Swift who was playing there tonight.
At the finish line I helped put up signs, get the water ready, rig a ramp over a fire hose and other things. But they had a lot of volunteers, and after a couple of hours, they thanked me for my work and said I could go as there wasn't much to do. I had a lot of things to get done, so I took them up on it.
I pedaled slowly back up the rolling hills and arrived home just before noon.

Perfect day today, so I packed the wife and son into the car and we drove up to Jamaica, VT to watch the whitewater kayakers on the West River where they've opened the dam. Lots of fun! Then did a haunted hayride. What a day!

Saturday, a 34+ mi. tandem ride with one hill. A nice, easy spin before the heat set in.

First time up Mt. Baker. Rode from Abbotsford in BC to top of Mt. Baker. 147.95 kilometres. There were four of us. I'm the guy on the right. We started out fast, so it was a tough but good ride.
