Gianni Motta Personal USA
Hello,
Brand new to the site and cycling in general. I am hoping some of the experts here can help me identify this vintage Gianni Motta. I picked it up locally today and It seems a bit different from the Personal 2001 USA that I viewed in the 1985 Gianni Motta catalog. For starters, it doesn't have the 2001 Graphics on the frame and it has the word BREV on the frame. So I am wondering if it is an early version or team bike possibly.
I created an album in the gallery with pictures. I am happy to provide any additional photos needed.

You’ll need to upload photos to a 3rd party photo hosting site and post the link here OR you can upload photos to your bikeforums.net photo gallery and other members can post them for you.

A vintage bike's value is based on several things. Make and model of the bike. Vintage of the bike. Size of the bike. Condition of the bike. Location of the bike. And, the seller's marketing skill, coupled with patience.

Better photos may be necessary for a good valuation. I suggest a tad bit closer for the full bicycle pictures, and a tad bit further for pictures of components.
Just spitballing here, but this is a high quality bike that’ll demand a higher dollar amount. Top of the line Gianni Motta Personal bike a USA Racing colorway. I agee with the above statement. For a price considerably under $1000 as a buyer I would be running to purchase. Near $1000 as a buyer I would be reaching out for more information and to get serious about purchasing. As the seller I’d hope the bike fetches top dollar as it might deserve and would auction it off.

Hmm a 57/58CM one sold here locally two or three years ago in the $400-600 range if I remember correctly. I wanted it but just to big for my. A bud at the LBS I used actually picked it up.
If that had been a 55/56CM bike I would have got it. It did languish on the local classifieds for awhile.

As a frame only, you'd probably have more bidders for it (= higher price) than trying to sell as a whole and it would go fast. Selling the rest of the parts as a group would be the best way to unload them if you are not looking for absolute top dollar. I know I am more inclined to just buy a group from one seller if the price is right versus picking up individual pieces here and there to save money. Also, there are some buyers out there who are lazy or just want that immediate gratification - me included in this bunch. But if you are looking for top dollar for each piece, then selling separately is the way to go, although it will take a longer time generally, from my experience.
If it were me, and you had the ability, I'd break the bike down, clean and polish everything really nice and sell off the frame, then list the components separately and see if you get any bites. If after a while you don't, put it together as a group with a discounted price, and hopefully, it sells fast. The market right now is very weird, possibly due to the uncertain economy and frivolous spending for most has been reined in some. I think the end of this year going into next will get even worse, so your best bet would be to get this bike on the market now or put it back in storage and hopefully things will get better in 2023 and people are flush with disposable income again but I'm not holding my breath. Your target market (those who remember these bikes and have the cash, i.e., old people like me) is not getting any younger and very soon, you'll lose a big share of those who don't want or can't ride these bikes anymore and don't want a pretty wall-hanger for their mancave. There's always the oddball hipster dufus that appreciates these bikes but they are not a majority and generally are not too willing to sink money in bikes their father and grandfather cherished when they were young.
What size is the frame by the way and what tubing?
Edit: As a whole, the bike would be awesome for Eroica, and that's how I would advertise it if you were to go down this route. As a frame only, you open up the possibilities for those of us that just want a classic frame built up with modern components, i.e., a retro-mod. I've done a few of these myself and will soon start another one, a '89 Pinarello Montello Cromovelato (w/matching stem and seatpost). I bought this bike as a whole and stripped it of its parts (Dura-Ace 7400) and will build it up with 11-speed Campy Athena.

I think I'd put it on ebay for $1500, local pickup only, and take $1200 if it lingered for awhile. IMO, nice classic racers *should* be worth more, but...

I would guess around a $1000 it will actually sell the semi custom original paint makes pricing a bit tricky some buyers that love it will likely pay a couple hundred premium while others will just pass because they don't like it. So as said to get top dollar you will likely need to sell the frame online to to find the one buyer that will love the custom paint and pay a premium.
