Brand new rider

First time ever joining a forum. I don't have Facebook so talking to strangers on the net feels pretty weird. My wife and I purchased a pair of Fuji Absolute bikes from our LBS about a month ago. So far we love riding together. We live only a mile away from a rail trail in our town (Really nice). I give up drinking 5 months ago and cycling has become a new positive outlet for myself. Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing pictures of everyone's rides

Welcome, Mike. Just remember that cycling has a lot of side-effects like cardio building, weight loss, endorphins, and it’s addictive!

Hi Mike!

I ride with my wife as well. Its great fun. I can ride much faster but its not as fun riding alone. So I try to get some intervals in and then circle back to her. Regardless its fun being together on rides.

I grew up cycling in MA. Mostly south shore and the cape.

I am new to biking also. My husband and I also just purchased bikes and are finding ourselves fast becoming addicted. He has a bike that is faster than mine and can ride faster than me. However I am starting to catch up to him. This has been the best thing we have done in a long time.

hey. Mike I'm new too! Just joined forum...I too gave up drinking. 7 months ago. I just woke up the other day and was thinking I need a bike! LOL. I'm 39. My 10 year old has been also asking me to walk with her while she rides so I'll be riding with her instead and doing my own thing with hopes to lose this beer belly.

Sounds like me and my wife, shea got a bell she rings when I get too far out ahead of her. Very cool!

You can do it buddy. I'm down about 30 pounds since I quit. I used binge eat food after a night of drinking

Awesome way to use a healthy outlet replace something not so much! Coming from a family of alcoholics, I've seen all too well what overindulging can do, and I know myself and my own addictive personality well enough that I have to make a conscious effort to be careful. I too try to find other ways to occupy my impulses, like cycling or other exercise, reading, cars, and the critters I keep in my classroom.

One thing strikes me as odd though. You're 29 and don't use social media??
