FS: 1978 Trek 930 24" Columbus SP Frameset
NOW $275 Shipped CONUS
Selling a cool piece of Trek history. Based on the (hard to read) serial number, '78 Trek catalog and the Original Gran Sport crankarms, which we're the only remaining original component I am confident it is a 1978 frame and the Columbus tubing sticker and logo on the fork steerer identify it as a 937 road/crit model.
Overall the frame is in excellent condition with no dings, dents or bends. The paint is a lovely robin-egg blue and also in very good shape with a few small scrapes and rubs in the normal places. It is a size 24" with the geometry listed below:
I am asking $300 net to me shipped CONUS for the frame, fork and Campagnolo headset. Please see pics in the album HERE for details and let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

These ride really nice. My '78 930 is my #1 bike.

My 79 930 also gives a lovely ride. It's billed as a crit bike.
I have to say I was tempted by this one. Is it possible to have too much of a good thing?

Actually, I'll ask my question here for everyone's benefit.
Can you confirm this is a touring model? the 930 model looks like it's the road racing model. Also, I can't seem to make sense of the serial number, I see a dash as the first character, shouldn't it be a letter?

From Vintage-Trek.com, I read that as:
- = ?
4 = 24" frame, 60cm
C = March
8 = 1978
A40 = sequence number
Re the first character, "A couple of serial numbers have been submitted that are missing the first letter. This letter designates the model. The remaining six characters are typical. It appears that some custom frames were built that did not fit within the standard model description. For example, a 710 frame made with Columbus tubing instead of 531. What leading letter to use? Perhaps it was just left blank?"
My 930 is L4I8018, so September '78. Interestingly, mine has the screwed on headbadge, whereas this one has the later version without the screws.

Measuring the chainstay length from the center of the BB shell to the intersection with the seatstays inside the dropout (per the diagram) might clear it up if it's either of the 910/930 geometries. Whether it's +/- 3cm (41.5 or 44.5) should be noticeable, at least I think?

I’m liking this one, especially since I offloaded my slightly-too-small-for-me 760 frameset before ever building it. In the midst of a relocation so a couple of months before I can pull the trigger on anything.
How does H measure on your frame vs the 2 model groups listed in the drawing?

Check out the VT gallery, looks like same bike pictured there (93x with 41.5 stays)....that one appears 1979 stamped but my assumed theory is must have hung in trek manufacturing until early 80s, got painted then/non screw headbadge as well and shipped a few years after production. I am sure will make a great rider. I really like my 78 ishiwata 510........

Sorry for the delay and confusion all!
I finally got back in town and had a chance to measure the chainstays, and the mid point is right at 415mm, so this is indeed the 937 with the shorter stays etc.,
