My Cervello took me on a tour of the wineries in Temecula.
Nice day and enjoyed the winds cooling effect even when not helping with the hills.
Quick tour of approx 2 hours and not quite 30 miles.

57 miles from El Dorado Park to the border of Laguna Beach. Just more generic miles.

One thing about today that didn't really hit me until I was almost home was that during the entire ride on PCH I think I only passed or was passed by 1 other rider going in my direction. Although there were plenty of pedestrian and cars... there was virtually no one out on their bikes on PCH. I only saw a couple groups of 5 guys riding in the opposite direction along Sunset Beach and Bolsa Chica.

was more appropriately placed in the northern california regional forum. ain’t no central california forum. likely wouldn't get a ton of traffic but it would probably get more than many of the regional forums.

10mi / 1600' - Singlespeed dirt therapy session. Brown Saddle - Millard Canyon. It was nice to do this ride in sub-90 degree heat, with a good amount of shade on the climb to Brown Saddle. Those were big factors in setting a new PR by a significant margin. Overall, it was a really good ride - physically and emotionally.

14 miles last night with the weekly DTLA group ride. The ride was mainly focused on riding uphill in Mt. Washington next to Highland Park and Glassell Park. It was a challenge on a geared bike, but the fixed gear riders are beast doing the climb! We then concluded with a fast downhill and tacos!

It's worth noting there are so many bike combinations on this ride from road, gravel, MTB, fixed and even Bromptons!

Nice midweek conditioning ride of 30 miles and 3700 feet of climb riding Turnbull Cyn repeats (4) and Hadley Ave. Very quiet. A handful of riders and hikers but not much else.

Beware there is a sand spill on Turnbull Cyn Rd on the first hairpin curve descending from Skyline on the Hacienda Heights side.

finally crossed the painted cave climb off the list. added a few miles along east camino cielo north since it may be my fave road in socal. started/finished at san marcos pass. mostly cold and foggy but not too windy. painted cave pavé not the best and a descent is not recommended. east camino cielo (west of the communication tower) really nice for a mile closest to ca hwy 154 and for about a half mile farther up. rest is just okay…like a 6.5 or 7/10. painted cave is a 5.

Today I did a quick 16 miles in Griffith Park, the LA River and some exploratory on-road and low-key off-roading in Elysian Park. I just hopped on some of the dirt trails and explored the fire roads. Afterwards swung back down the bike lane on Sunset Blvd., cut into Silver Lake and back to Griffith Park. I find mixing the route terrain, makes for a more interesting bike ride. I enjoy the sights, hill climbs and city exploration!

Out from Agoura to Hidden Valley, Ellen's Ranch turn around, then back home. 35 miles, not much climbing. A bit more in the hills tomorrow.

I also choose bikes depending on my mood, looks like your gravel bike will cover most choices

Yesterday's ride on a cool and grey afternoon - Climb to top of Brown Mountain Rd., finishing with a descent of El Prieto Canyon. A very challenging, but highly enjoyable ride. The weather contributed to a new PR on the climb to Brown Saddle. I'm getting better about controlling my pace and HR, and this was the first time doing this climb on my singlespeed that I didn't need any recovery breaks (16mi, 2300')



Today...Got up, got dressed to ride, lost motivation, and went back to sleep.

Saturday 30 mile morning group ride (group seen on the bridge). Today's ride was Filipino food themed, so we made two food stops to sample different dishes and then we hit the road sprinting hard on the flats and hustled up the hill climbs to burn off the calories!

Still getting back into my groove. Flexibility improving and able to get into the drops without issues.
Puttered around the Whittier-Puente Hills through La Habra Hgts and Whittier.
New pavement being laid this week on Cypress Ave climb in LHHTS. Will be a blast to descend with fresh tarmac.

made it up to the escondido area and mixed in a few fun roads such as the lake wohlford climb, woods valley rd, lilac rd, gopher canyon rd (eastbound)
and couser canyon (heading north) descent which is always a blast. pavement on woods valley rd and lilac rd nearly impeccable.
couser canyon had a few ruff spots but still a 7.5/8 throughout. lake wohlford climb lowest mile still a 5/5.5. once up to the lake, it is an 8.5/9.

Nice effort, you must have been feeling good yesterday.
I was also feeling good yesterday in Escondido but that was in my daughters hot tub after my Temecula ride.

20 miles with the Tuesday night ride group coming in from DTLA, cutting into HLP/ER, doing some spicy hill climbing over Adams Hill in Glendale and then the east/west uphill grind over Los Feliz Blvd. and concluding at House of Pies. I find these rides pretty enjoyable, due to the riders moving with more of an urban instinct through LA. It seems chaotic, but at the same time experienced riders maneuver and react like their life depends on it! There's also a number of fixed gear bikes and I'm still amazed these gals/guys can climb and go balls out on the downhill like it's nothing, especially on one descent we were clocking in over 40-45mph.

We also encountered the BMX Tuesday meetup and a large roadie group coming south on Figueroa (Pasadena group?)...it was all smiles and thumbs up heading opposite directions!

25mi / 1700' - Solo rolling on the road (Altadena-San Marino-So. Pasadena - Rose Bowl). Started at a pretty easy pace, and ramped up the intensity as my body started feeling it. Added the climb from Linda Vista to Sacred Heart (2mi/600'), and felt pretty good. My fitness is off from where I was a few months ago, but that's not surprising considering my weekly volume is down, too.

it got hot on that lake wohlford climb. see what happens when you start at 12:30pm in august? serves me right.
got a little overheated and was contemplating turning around and heading along the ca hwy 78 corridor to the coast
to beat the heat. the high thin clouds moved in and cut the temp by 5-7 degrees and the (mostly) flats and descent
in plenty of shade along woods valley rd aided in recovering. had a blast on the couser canyon descent
(it's been a while) there was some back end suffering tho. was bonking or close to it on the southbound of the 395 parallel
to the 15 fwy from deer park winery/welk resort entrance up to the mountain meadow/deer springs/offramps. that stretch
is interminable on a good day but it seriously felt like I was going backwards. bleep pavement through there didn't help the mood.

Like your posts as they bring back memories of my days working at JPL and riding some of the areas around the campus since I would bring my bike just to get from the parking lot to my work building. Big hilly campus.
