Is it worth $200?
Hey Everyone!
i have a bike that I’m interested in buying but I’m not sure if it’s worth the price. I’d also like to note that I’m 6’8” with a 38in inseam.
This bike is being sold to me for $200. It’s a Raleigh 502.
I’m not a serious cyclist but ideally looking for something that I can fit and that’s priced affordably.
I couldn’t link the photos but I think they’re posted on my page.

It's an entry level recreational bike. About 20 years ago I had that same bike, albeit mine was sized for someone 5'10' and not 6'8". In a more mainstream size it is probably a $125-150 bike. But how often do you find a bike in this size?

In anything other than uncommon size, that is probably a $100 or less bike. Make sure to check that the seat post comes out. Seeing one jammed in that far always makes me nervous.

I bet the seat post down that low is because the current owner is too small for this big a bike. Looks like it is a 68cm frame so it should fit you fine, I am 6'6" and I ride one that are 66-68cm.
That's a nice Cannondale bag, if that comes with it, $150 would be a good deal.

Banned.
I think that price is correct even for a more unusual, tall bike. It probably has 27 inch wheels, and it’s a nutted rear wheel. I guess I would pay $125 for it if I was 6 foot eight and just wanted a basic bike to ride around on.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.I have an update! The owner of the bike lowered the price to $150 but according to the listing this bike will need new tires and tubing.
I have a friend that’s telling me that this bike could potentially be too heavy To ride with others because of the Chrome Moly frame. I think the frame size is 27 1/4” and the wheel size is 27in.
With this new information my question is if I should buy this bike or consider buying a different one?
Im new to riding and ideally don’t want to spend too much money.

That being said, $150 for that bike doesn't seem too high. You might spend fixing it up, but nowhere near what a new bike would cost.
The weight will probably be an issue if you have hills to climb on your rides. If your area is mostly flat, you might not notice the weight unless you carry the bike.

You're often going need tires, tubes and a few other consumables. A decent used bicycle in your size is not going to be easy to find in most markets. And the COVID crunch has left the used market with fewer bikes at elevated prices. This is not a bad starter bike for the price and it's available. Unless you're in a large market area, you might be waiting foe quite a while to find something better in that size and price range.
It's going to be a bit on the heavy side, but that isn't of great consequence for casual riders.
If you really enjoy riding, you are going to want to upgrade in the future, but that's part of the fun.

It has really tall height and short wheelbase if it actually fits it is a fair deal. This one will take a rider 6'2" that is comfortable with fairly aggressive geometry for it to be good ride so not for 19 out of 20 buyers but if your that guy it could actually be pretty good deal in the current market.
