I'm with Doc. The Classic is the choice for One IM that does it all. Either a red 86 or the Yellow 87 Master. The local riders around here thought I was riding my Sachs when I was really riding riding my red/white 86. One had Dura Ace 9 speed DT indexed shifting and one had 600 7 speed DT indexed shifting.

54cm Prestige rescue….

Rear TT cable guide was broken, a kiss of death for an “ old Japanese steel bike.”
So said the frame repair guy here. So I sent it to a friend in NC, with best wishes.

He found the guide on line, had a body shop cousin attach it. Same guy painted it.
VeloCals didn’t have the decals, so we adapted, overcame. They came through.
Red housings to accent the lettering shadow. Red wrap. Fork remains unpainted.
American Classic hoops with 2 red spokes each.
Ultegra 10/11 mix. He’s got red/black saddle and red/black cages coming in.
Cinelli Frog stem. His first compact setup, and under 19 lbs.

I’ll bet the photos don’t bring out the nice mix of black, red, and bling.

He’ll work on the photos. Great guy.

Very cool. Ask your friend to rotate the bars a bit. RT would approve.

The picture doesn't do it justice. Kind of hazy and needs more light. It's not picking up the shiny. Outside in the sun, it should pop.

Since this is the IM thread, I've set the distance goal for my "All Day Soiree" in August at 1/2 IM. I'll run a 1/2 marathon first, drive to the gym and start/finish the bike leg from the parking lot, then the swim leg in the gym pool. That will keep me off the streets during the hottest part of the day. The swim leg will also be the leg most likely to stop my advancement, so it will be last.(cramps in my feet arches) I can use my office and house as SAGs. I have a 30 mile loop I ride that has the gym, my house and office positioned at various points. I'm not going to worry about transition times much. I guess I should get some clip on aero bars so the MV will look the part.

I'd be afraid someone would get that on video. Then I'd become an overnight viral internet sensation for the wrong reason!

No real consensus on the "model" the best represents the "classic" IRONMAN, but since the IM originally started on Oahu it would be a Comp TA, preceding the Dave Scott version. Being partial to Hawaii I would vote for the pink and yellow. Anyone have an M.V. master, I have only seen experts.
Best,Ben

Real cyclist's like "pink"

The saddle, the hoods, the gumwalls.

Yup, good stuff right there.

Found what was probably a great value back then....

Sorry for the poor scan.

If you can find a 1985 Buyer's Guide, find a Columbus SL with chromed lugs, NR shifters, FD, RD, tubular wheels, and all-Italian components, for $789.

For those that don't think it's a Cinelli, note the ad. Literally, "Cinelli Team Centurion."

Again, sorry for the poor pic. The light is not good in the storage unit.

With 9-sp Racing T, Chorus/Aerohead wheels, zero-setback Thomson.

This one popped up in Bicycling, July 1982 issue. Thought the Centurion aficionados would appreciate a copy.
