1983 Eddy Merckx Pro 55.5x55.5 (Denver)

SOLD

I only recently finished my restoration on this, but sadly my stable must shrink due to a move. 55.5cm square (cTc). Columbus tubing with Dura Ace 7400 greatness. Stronglight needle bearing headset. Comes with everything you see here.
Pros: brand new tires, bar tape, cables, grease.
Cons: mild surface oxidation on the components in some areas. I cleaned it up the best I could and it still looks fantastic. See photos for actual condition. I also repainted the top tube and bottom bracket after cleaning up some mild rust. Just your typical rusting cable guides. I’m not Joe Bell, but I think it came out pretty nice. I didn’t want to do a whole repaint and sacrifice the logos because 95% of the paint was/is amazing. My process was- remove loose rust, treat areas with oxalic acid to convert/halt rust, two coats automotive primer, two coats base PPG, three coats clear color sanded and buffed to a shine.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I prefer a local sale, but I would ship it for a patient buyer. I recently moved and am still painting while we stay with relatives.
$800

Someone should jump on this bike. It's not often I see these with two sets of bottle cage bosses, which is an essential feature for any rider IMHO.
I have a 1981 Merckx Professional and it is one of the best riding bikes I own.

Was the down tube decal ever that type of font for this decade? I always thought the decal matched the fork crown but perhaps I'm mistaken. I know that style was used for the Molteni years, however.

fwiw someone on FB tossed out the possibility that it could be a factory repaint. I’m not sure I agree based on the details like fork ends and chain stays, but I guess it could explain your question.

I'm not sure how this is still available. Great looking build. The paintwork you did looks good from here. Love the perforated Flite saddle, too. GLWS

Thank you! I humbly think it looks OK myself. Not factory perfect, but from 13" away, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
It looks like I will be taking this with me to Denver area, CO with me if no takers within the next four days! I will still need to clear it out based on my wife's persuasion, so if anyone near Denver fancies it, let me know!

It’s worth mentioning the bike is in 80005 (Denver area) now. I can’t change the title.

Seriously. This hasn't sold. At $800??

You did a beautiful job on this...if I were still buying bikes, I'd have bought it. Great job.

If I hadn't bought my Team Miyata Road recently, I'd be allllllll over this one.

Enjoy Denver.

Sorry for the delayed response. I’ve been busy remodeling my new house and haven’t had time to give much thought to the bike sale. As luck would have it, someone actually picked it up locally so I wanted to come on here and update. Thanks for the interest.
