@malcala622 - nice to know mine is not alone in the Patina condition department!

I don't know how to determine year. My frame looks exactly the same except for the paint. I suspect they produced these for multiple years with little, if any, variation. I was able to come up with a year range based on the 7402 parts on it. I think @Wildwood informed me that Pinarello gave into the demand for Shimano equipped frames due to demand, The remaining Campagnolo HS on mine was either a "still available stock" or a remnant of the transition from Campagnolo to Shimano. 89 Cat states the kits can be either Campagnolo or Shimano.

The catalogues from 85 and 87 show just frames but states that kits are available. 87 cat states that the Montello is fitted with C Record.

Not me.
I'm not a Pinarello expert (nor any kind of an expert on any topic).

But i will be working to improve this one in the Spring.

The only Shimano equipped bike in my group.

I scoured the internet for a matching bike but only found one sale listing on pinkbikes with the same color scheme. Seller listed it as an '87 Pinarello Montello.

Hopefully someone chimes in being able to pinpoint year. I'll post the serial number very shortly

I think the first year for the Montello is 1987, per the Cat. Too bad they didn't state the color options.
@malcala622 - do post SN, please.

Wow, That is a nice-looking PINA....I can give one other reason besides the size.....it starts with a P and ends with an R! My pockets are short.
Best, Ben

Pinarello

Here is my Pinarello... I've never seen one this color - it is original paint but has been re-decaled. I bought as a frame a few years ago and built up, mostly Campy SR and NR, with a set of Modolo Master Pro brakes. I am not completely certain, but I 'think' it is likely a Super Record model, based on decals, chrome stays, etc. but if anyone has other info, let me know. It's a great ride...

Beautiful color!
I forgive you for the odd green handlebar wrap choice. Even if it matches the commandeurs.

It is well documented Giovanni Pinarello started working for Paglianti at the age of 15 in 1937. What is not well documented what he did there. (I did email Pinarello, they didn't reply). It is also well documented Pinarello started in 1952. What is sort of documented (one source) is that Giovanni and his brother were building frames on the side from 1946-1952 while Giovanni was a professional racer.

So what's my point? While the chances are next to zero (never say never ), this late 1930s Paglianti could have been built by Pinarello. It's the closest thing I have to a real Pinarello.

Bought this Pinarello frame last year for a specific project for my brother: he wanted modern components for his long training rides but also a quality lugged/chromed/pantographed steel frame to do that with class. This Pinarello has GPX Columbus tubes, which would make it a 1995 Treviso if I’m correct. So not a vintage, but at least a vintage-like one. Here are some pics, albeit I will refrain from posting the finished bike in C&V…

@JackJohn - You should post the final build! I and others do post pics of C&V framesets with more modern components. An example is my De Rosa, Help me build a 1990 De Rosa Pro - Bike Forums

ok, here it is, built with a 105 group and campy wheels. Light, balanced and nimble, rides like a charm.

My LBS kindly passed me along to the local seller of this what research is telling me is a ca. '82-83 Pinarello Record (vs. Super Record based on the painted forks). If anyone has further info, I'm all ears! RD is dated '83, decals and Rxxx S/N point to pre-84 from what I'm reading. Bike is way cool and patina'd. I plan on taking everything back to the Campy Super Record stuff that should be on the bike. Dropouts, pedals, shift levers, and FD/RD are Campy, bars are 3TTT.

Crank & BB is now a drilled Sugino Super Mighty, brakes are Suntour Superbe, levers are Dia-Compe. Rims/hubs are '70s Nisi tubular/Campy high-flange (Nuovos?) that I feel definitely belong on a pre-80 bike. If anyone is interested in these extras, shoot me a PM...

Putting this here because it's interesting to see Pinarello stamped dropouts on a frame earlier than 1987:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/15520613...Bk9SR9j0nov9YA

(This one allegedly from 1980.)

Also interesting to see the 'M' prefix on the serial number; I thought they only got up to 'D' before they changed the format.

I guess I never shared mine here. Picked up locally after it languished for sale around a year. A beautiful and spectacular riding bike.

How I picked it up a couple of years ago.

How I ride it now.
