Brifter question
I have a 2002 LeMond with a Shimano 105 groupset. I am beginning to suspect that the brifters may need to be replaced sooner rather than later. My question is: will new Sora 9spd R3000 brifters work with my 20 year old 105 derailleurs?

Another cheaper option are Sensah shifters which I recently used to upgrade a bike. 100% Shimano compatible and they also come in black or silver.

Even if they don't work with your old DR's. Derailleurs are surprisingly inexpensive.
And they are STI's if talking about Shimano integrated shift lever and brake lever units. That other word has always sounded corny to me even from the time it was coined back in the 90's

NO. The ST R3000 (for the 2X9) has the wrong pull ratio for the FD. The R3000 uses the same FD pull ratio as the Tiagra 4700 and the 11 sp groupsets.
Now the ST R3030 (for the 3x9) does have the correct pull ratio to mate with the older groupsets like your 105 1055.

Back when I rode with the shimano brifters if I had problems the WD-40 flush worked. I did not relube, I just rode and relubed when necessary. I used the same method on my daughter's 7sp and friends different shifters. It even worked on bar-end shifters on a friends touring Trek.

Are you sure? This chart claims it's a 1.7 pull but I did find a mistake in the chart once before. Bicycle Cassettes & Drivetrains - Google Sheets
The ST R3030 is grouped together in the same box as the old ST 3503, meaning they are mutually interchangeable. The ST R3000 on the other hand, is in its own box separate from the old ST3500. Same story with the ST R2000 and the ST R2030.
