anybody use both winter cycling boots and winter shoe covers together?
I want to keep my feet warm down into the 20's and my Fizik Arctica boots are not sufficient. Tomorrow I plan to take a 30 mile ride in the cold and will put my old Giordana Windstopper shoe covers over top of my Fizik Arcticas to try it out. I found out that neoprene socks just make my feet colder so I am just using thick wool socks and trying to not tighten the internal continuous lace down too tight so as to try to maintain some type of airspace inside of the boot.
So anyway, has anyone doubled up both winter boots and windblocking shoe covers together? Thanks for any help.

Yes, I did when I was using Specialized Defroster shoes. I rode with someone last week with Fizik winter shoes and he did the same thing. Go for it.

I use Lake MXZ 303 winter boots. They are bulky enough that my very old Performance brand XXL neoprene booties, nor my XXL Garneau shoe covers will fit over them. Too bad as I don't find the Lakes exceptionally warm.

Yup, a chemical toe warmer across the top and front of the toes, hydrophobic wool socks, and my Shimano MW80 GoreTex boots are good down to 5 F for a 45 minute commute, or for a 20-25 F 6-7hr century. No need for a bootie cover.
