Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There was a little excitement at our hotel last night, as we were heading to dinner.

I don't like it. We have Boulder Roubaix, that's half dirt roads, half pavement, and it's very unnerving. The race gets hard and fast on the dirt sections, and I compare it to racing a crit in the dark. All one can see is the wheel ahead, and you better hope he takes a nice line.

I know what you mean.

My main issue is lack of raw horsepower on that high-attrition surface. I have only ridden with these guys on a flat tow path where my weight doesn’t count, and might do better in the hills. I’d love to go out there and just enjoy the scenery and the quiet, though.

I bought a gravel bike two years ago and took it on a couple gravel rides that are local race courses. Most of our gravel is like riding on marbles and some of it is pretty big. All I could think of when I was riding was that if I fall, it's going to hurt, like really hurt.

I sold the bike.

45 this morning and it felt colder than yesterday when it was 25.

Knee started hurting around mile 20. I thought I was going to have to call for a pick up but then it stopped hurting. Strange but went with it.

Tried a different wind breaker this morning. All of my jackets suck.

New cockpit comes this week

i used to want a gravel bike really bad, specifically the aspero. I just don’t think I would use it much. A mountain bike would make more sense.

I have occasionally had my right knee start to bother me, but turning my foot a degree or two one way or the other and it stopped. Always the right leg.

Oh, I ran over a squirrel today with my front wheel. I gave up on dodging them several months ago. Today on this particular section of trail they were all over the place and they kept running right in front of me. One was not lucky. He didn’t get back up after I hit him.

I think the wife got me one for Christmas. Will have to suffer until then.

One of mine is warm but it’s so loose, it acts like a giant sail.
