Addiction 2023.2

Notices
Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

It's a slightly taller hot hatch. But I'd stick with the Si. If I were after a hatch, I'd go that way. I lust anyway but AG doesn't drive stick and it would be stupid for how our life goes now anyway, but the lust is there.

Got it. I love to drive stick but mrs datlas does not....so when Saturn dies we will have a heart-to-heart discussion. I may have to dumb it down to automatic for marital harmony.

Question is for East Coasters, obviously. West Coasters are still asleep.

What now? Anything fun?

Paddle shifters maybe. My 2 5s have/had a manual gate next to the auto gate. If only they'd made a Mazdaspeed version. It would have been the greatest sleeper ever. Still will do 130 with sliding doors and a 3rd row of seats. Will carry multiple bicycles as well. I keep waiting for all of those mini mini vans in Europe and Asia to come/come back to the USA. I'd even go for the new Mazda 6 wagon if it came back. Or this. It's the Ibex of 4 wheelers, going where others can't.

You probably can't get the GR either.

I'd choose the Si over the Acura.

I got my first automatic when I got the Dodge. I'd been complaining for years that the way traffic moves - creeping vs. in discrete steps - is because everyone has automatics and it's a pain driving in traffic with a manual. So Mrs. GeneJockey told me she'd do me grievous bodily harm if I came home with a manual.

And as luck would have it, as soon as I got the Dodge, I had a spell of sciatica in my left leg that would have made working a clutch pure hell, so I guess it was all for the best. I do miss it sometimes, especially when I'm going about 80 on the freeway and there's no 6th gear to drop into to lower the revs.

Kudos. Three lawns in two counties. The journey to recovery is now complete.

I wonder if I can even find a Civic Si. The Saturn may outlive me anyway so I won't sweat it just yet.

You are going to die one day and your kids are going to blow all of your hard saved money in the first year after. You sure you don't want to spend some on yourself?

I am aware.

Daughter #1 is launched (and we do NOT expect a boomerang) and #2 should be launched in a year. Once that happens, I think I will be more willing to splurge, and mrs datlas likely will be more willing to let me.
