Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

UT evidently spent too much time on drilling the school color codes and none on the use of quotation marks. SMH.

We started letting the cat go outside. She seems to enjoy it. My hope is the local bird and rabbit population does not get harmed.

Saturday I left the group I was with and was caught by some fast riders I know. A guy was trying to stay with them and clearly out of his league because I could drop him on the hills. After the last series of climbs they stopped to wait for their straggler and were surprised to see me first. This Australian guy asked me "What happened to Sal?" "I crushed his soul" was my answer. He looked at me, horrified, "What???" I had to explain it to him, then he laughed. I told him if I'm dropping you in the hills, you're having a bad day.

Possibly. In the past when we had mice in the house, most of the time she would play with them rather than go for the kill.

I've had cats like that. They have to be taught to hunt for food by their mother and those girls were adopted very young. I don't think either of them ever killed anything.

The one I have now is a different story. He showed up at my door fully grown and he was hunting to survive. He wanted to be outside all day while we were at work so he left the remnants of his activity on the door mat. He's old now and stays in most of the time.

Speaking of “crushing souls,” my legs are shot. I feel like crap.Tried to ride this morning and my legs are gone. I have a club metric planned for tomorrow and I may have to back out. On the other hand, it’s a slow group…

You crushed your own soul? Drink lots of water and do a little massage, maybe some stretching. If it's a slow group and there are no big hills it'll be ok.

Yes. I’ve crushed my own soul for rarely taking days off.

I should be ok because of the slow group except often a faster group bolts over the last 20 miles or so and I know I’ll get sucked in.

I had intended to climb May Canyon this morning but didn't feel up to it. Instead I went to Santa Clarita and spun around the bike path for two hours. Came home and went shopping and there was a male Karen in the store barking at 2 female employees because he didn't think they were giving him enough attention, or that's what I understood from the old geezer (probably my age).
