WTB: Shimano tricolor SL-6401 shifters or ST6400 brifters
Looking for a not-too-inflated price on a "really nice" set of SL-6401 (8spd Ultegra) [[b]OR] A nice pair of ST-6400 Ultegra 600 STI levers I can rebuild if not already done. I know they get gummed up.
Sadly, can't use SL-6400 (7spd Ultegra) levers. I know I said 'not-overly-inflated', to be clear, not looking for a "BF Bros" hookup like $20 on STIs, just need to avoid $180 brifter and $50-70 shifter prices languishing on eBay the last few months now.
EDIT: I can also trade one or both of these braze-on tricolor front mechs if it's interesting (https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ain-stuff.html)
Maybe a stretch, but condition-wise, better-than-rider-quality. In this ballpark would be ideal, if possible:

I've been looking for the same. After a year I found a great set of working ST-6400 at a reasonable price. I couldn't find any SL-6401 second hand, only NOS which they wanted stupid $$ for.
That has completed my 8 speed 6400 group, just need to find an early 90s frame now.

Knowing my luck, I'll find brifters but the hoods will be totally shot. Pretty sure the ST6400 hoods are unobtanium these days.

Yep ST-6400 hoods and BR-6400 brake pads are unobtanium or stupid $$$, BR-6403 brake pads are still available.

And it won't last forever, I bet! I actually found a shop on eBay recently selling 5-pairs for $30/shipped. I already have a 3 new pairs in a box in the shop, but went ahead and grabbed 2 x 5pk from that place and sealed up on arrival to keep fresh..
Shimano lists the following as fitting 64xx calipers, but most of these have similar shapes w/o the plastic grey outer ... which may be transferrable, I can't remember if the outer shell pops off or not.
BR-3300 / 4400
BR-1050 / 1055
BR-A250 / A350 / A450 / A550
BR-A410 / A416

AUPedla not sure it helps, but see this RE: Hoods. Shimano ST-6400 & ST-1055 (600 Ultegra Tricolor & 105) hood compatibilty.
After digging in the Shimano SI site, I was able to confirm the ST-1055 and ST-A550 hoods are identical (same p/n), and we have confirmation they're a "good enough" fit on the ST-6400 per that thread. This is taken from Shimano's technical information pages. (granted, it looks like the A550 and 1055 hoods are basically gone now too, but ... it's an option. That said, I have a potential lead on some 6400 levers locally through another BF'er, and if it falls through, my fallback (if compatible) is to run with something newer like the ST-R2000. If cable pull is compatible with the old 64xx stuff, I think they'll look about right (maybe better) on the subject bike. Sucks though ... just retaped the bars

And I don't know if it's also of interest, but curiosity was killing me, and I just got $100 cash on a quick computer repair job a few doors down, so I broke down and bought a pair of Claris ST-R2000 levers on eBay for $100 shipped today,
My confidence is high they'll work with my RD-6400 rear mech, but not sure about the FD-6400 front mech. The design isn't obtrusive and I actually think I like the styling a bit more, it's virtually unbranded and more convenient cable routing.
