I'm looking for something bigger than the tiny things I see in the stores. I like the retro looks of the Acorn waxed canvas roll bags but can't find then anywhere around here.

I have one of those and use it regularly. I remember them from the 80s when people actually put sew ups in them... Long enough for a decent sized mini pump, cell phone, + spare tube, tools, etc. Good for fast rides if you don't want to carry that stuff in a jersey. (I don't like glass phones in my jersey pocket)

If you want something bigger I also have a Carradice zipped roll and like it very much. It's much bigger. Sufficient for all of the above plus a camera and lunch. Tweed and tartan versions available for a few bucks (er quid) more. It requires a saddle with bag hooks (ie a B17), but is small enough to not need a support. More expensive than some, but worth it IMO.

You won’t find the Acorn bags in stores. They are made by a couple in small batches. You need to get on their email list and be ready to pounce when they let you know a new batch has gone live.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Sackville's saddlebag collection found on Rivendell's website. They have the vintage look while also appearing to be very spacious and well-made. Hoping to get my hands on one of them in the near future.

I've got a giant Carradice saddlebag but they make some smaller options as well if you aren't looking to go adventuring too much. They're pretty widely available online and SO CHEAP compared to most canvas bags, despite being handmade in England. Bonus points for being signed by the person who sewed the bag! They aren't perfect but I really love mine.

I love this Gilles Berthoud under seat banana bag. It’s just big enough to carry tools, spare tube, cell phone, etc. everything I need and the leather strap is big enough you can cinch it over a rolled up light weight rain coat. Yes, it’s expensive, but it last forever if you will just do minimal cleaning and oiling of the leather, plus as it sun ages you begin to look the part of the Ancient Cyclist, minus the albatross.

Plus it tilts up just enough that when you open it to find things within they don't all fall out, and it looks sweet on all my vintage bikes.

I have an Acorn medium saddle bag and it is worth the wait if you have bag loops on your saddle.

I just got a saddle bag and handlebar bag from roadrunner sports that is very well made by a small shop here in LA.

I like the Banjo Brothers barrel bag, roomy and classic works well with brooks saddles. I have had two.

I had one of those once but stuff kept bouncing out of it -- so I threw it out.

Price is hard to beat, and it looks nice, but it's IMO only good for smooth roads. I replaced it with a Carradice zipped roll, which is similar but far superior.

Hmm never had that issue with the barrel bag, must not have been riding enough gravel I agree the Carradice stuff is first rate I have a barley bag on my Cresta GT

It's not pretty, but it's functional. The rear face is vertical, and I hang my taillight on it. I keep spares and tools in it. Since it has all of the bike's essentials, I move it from bike to bike, which is very easy. When I lock the bike, I put this bag in my backpack.

I've got a couple of these.

Decently made and attractive. I did have to punch an additional hole in the seatpost strap so that it would fit tightly around a 26.8 seatpost.

However true that might be, anything and everything I have ever wanted was and is sold out. I just checked, again - no go.

Their business model and marketing approach sucks, IMO. I have tried many times over the span of many years.

You need to be with your phone/computer and as soon as the notification arrives, move in. Maybe I was lucky getting a bag on my first try.

I have a BANJO BROTHERS MINNEHAHA saddle bag. Had it for years and it looks great. It could easily be called expensive but it matched the style of bike I was using it on. So the price was worth it.

I think I have the small size. I haven't had an issue with things falling out ever. Well, if you hang your bike from the rafters your contents will fall out. But in riding I've not had an issue for 8 or 9 years of riding.

I own an acorn bag and it's nice. It has a couple different slots or areas in the bag. I just got it recently from a local bike co-op and haven't used it enough to have any complaints.

Both of these bags require loops underneath the saddle.

I've used other bags that are more athletic looking. I've had Specialized bags and other companies. They've worked just fine depending on what I wanted to carry. Have gotten ones big enough to hold my in ride tools, tube and co2 cartridges.

I got on Acorn's site at 11pm my time and hit refresh and clicked the items I wanted, put them in the cart and got a roll tool bag, compact rando bag, and a trunk bag.
Looking forward to getting my Raleigh Record Ace setup for sport/credit card touring.

You could always get a bren gun magazine pouch for $5 and some bungee cord which I did as an improv or hack a couple of weeks ago when I went for a ride and my old Blackburn bag would not accommodate everything.

I recently acquired an Outer Shell rolltop bag. I almost got the JandD tubular bag, but wanted something that could get compact when I wasn't carrying a tubular. It's very capacious, but can roll up pretty small. Lots of colors, too. Picture from their website:
