Quick 10 mile ride on and around the Walden - Wallkill Rail Trail

It was a good day for singing my Isolation Song. However, I've found that the civil behavior on our trail system can be pretty deplorable so I left early and got it done before 'normal people' came out. Schuylkill River Trail to Valley Forge National Park to the Chester Valley Trail. Awesome ride on my 'new' Fuji Touring Series III. I've recently completed the rehab of this bike and, after 100 test miles, I really like it. A keeper.

Valley Forge Park is closed for obvious reasons but it was really weird anyway.

8:00am, 41deg F, little wind. Excellent weather for me as I've been riding all winter. But the quiet. All in all I probably rode 25 minutes thru the park. Other than the very light traffic on the State route through the park, I did not see another living soul, anywhere. I hope to not see that ever again but I fear I will. Thinking of all I know of that region's history, I wonder back a thousand years, has it ever been this quiet. Ghosts.

it ain’t vintage steel, ti or aluminum but it’s a 1995 look kg 131 carbon fiber frame. thinking a 25 yo cf frame qualifies as vintage. 55 undulating miles (mostly) east of temecula, ca in low/mid-70’s weather.

Short ride around town today. I actually ended up riding twice as I ran over something and blew up my rear tire. Luckily < 3 miles from home so I MacGyvered a patch out of a length of duct tape in my tool pouch so that I could get about 30 psi in the tire and soft pedal home. Traded out for the Pinarello and rode a little more.



4 layers tape inside, 2 outside. Started bulging out more halfway home, so slapped on rest of the tape I had.

Tire had < 500 miles on it!

Started late to let morning showers pass and also to get temp above 45*F ( 7*C). Out th door, down the hill riding the Mondia Special. Black clouds to south and west - turn right and ride east, toward the bright.

May Valley - a bit Winter waterlogged.


Past Lake Boren Park off Coal Creek Pkwy. The sign is red, the Mondia has a burnt Orange colour.

YMCA - normally bustling, is shuttered

Up Lakemont Blvd past the golf course. Extra hill climb available.

Lakemont Blvd again. Bellevue city limits, but the pic on the sign hardly makes me think of development oriented Bellevue.

The legs feel the climbs, especially with vintage gearing and my winter 10lbs and almost 70yo legs.

’Bout this time I’ve climbed a couple that made me sweat a bit. And I’m thinking (hallucinating?) this is my early season Ride Around Cougar Mt. in a Couple of Hours an early season Ride Around Mt Rainier in a Day. Funny to a PNW distance cyclist. Or not ....

I got out last night for a short ride and headed downtown. Thought I'd head across the Ottawa River to see the road blocks on the other side (Ontario / Quebec provincial border - the police are restricting access to essential folks only). Weather was OK, but I needed the ride. I'm thinking of taking my rides on days like that so that fewer people are around. The ice is melting away on the river. That's our Parliament on the hill. This was the second test ride of this new build. Four-speed sturmey archer hub, and alloy parts all around to take some of the weight off. Rides nicely.

The wind today is blowing at a steady 25 and gusting to 35. I rode about 5 miles on an errand. Going out was not bad, but the return was another thing entirely. Needless to say, I took no photos.

First ride in I don't know how many weeks, not due to the virus, but rather being awash in POLLEN! Can you say allergic as hell? The Raleigh Pro is 50 this year.

Went out for thirty five miles through the countryside between Visalia and Hanford late this morning, with some lovely sunny weather. We're expecting a week of rain now! I purposely went out to enjoy the sun while I had a chance, despite doing a five mile run yesterday evening in 37 minutes. Finally got sore by the end of the ride... Feeling good lately!

The weather cleared up nicely for the weekend.

I rode up twords the pass on the Iron Horse Trail, turning back when snow blocked my progress at Rock Creek.

Back in town, I got back on the road and rode a loop around the upper valley before going home. The roads were actually more quiet than the trail. A lot of folks were out walking and enjoying the sun while still maintaining safe distances.

Bad Lag

No pics, as usual.

I rode yesterday here in the South Bay (the beach cities of Torrance, Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan). I was amazed at how many people were out and about and how much pedestrian, automobile and bicycle traffic there was. The bike path was completely barricaded to prevent use as were the beaches. Still, there was a ton of people out riding. I saw this as a good thing. IMO, the worst thing you can do is be a couch potato.

Want to stay healthy? Wash your hands. Eat right. Take your vitamins. Ride your bike for exercise.
